    Reports to: Special Education Director
     
    Job Classification: Instructional Assistant (IA)
    This position falls under Article 1, Sections 1.2 and 1.2.3 of the Classified Union
    agreement and therefore is a non-union represented position.  The position is not included in the bargaining unit. 
     
     
    Job Goal:
    The educational interpreter facilitates communication between hearing and deaf consumers in the educational setting. The interpreter is a member of the educational team along with teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing and is available to address communication accessibility and deaf cultural issues as they arise.

    Key Responsibilities & Performance Description:
    1. Interpret in all academic situations and in all student service areas.
    2. Have the skill to match a variety of language and cognitive needs.
    3. Have sufficient knowledge to be able to interpret in a variety of school settings and subjects.
    4. Facilitate visual accessibility.
    5. Provide tutoring services.
    6. Participate in IEP meetings as a member of the educational team.
    7. Adapt, accommodate, modify and supplement curriculum as specified by the IEP team.
    8. Orient staff and students on the interpreter's function, primary responsibilities and diverse roles.
    9. Serve as a cultural mediator between deaf and hearing communities.
    10. Prep for content as needed.
    11. Maintain proficiency in receptive and expressive language skills through acquisition of PDUs and/or CEUs.
    12. Follow district policies and the interpreter Code of Professional Conduct.
    13. Work collaboratively with co-workers in multiple environments.
    14. Be aware of physical requirements necessary in various settings.
    15. Other duties as assigned.

     
    Qualifications:
     1. Hold a certificate with a passing score of 3.5 or above on the EIPA Performance test or hold
    RID NIC, CI or CT Certification; and
    2. Hold a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree from an Interpreter Education Program in ALS; or
    3. Achieve a passing score on the EIPA Written Test;
    4. Pass fingerprint check and drug testing requirements;
    6. Ability to use e-mail, internet software and word processing; and
    7. Fluent in American Sign Language.

     
    Location: North Bend School District/ North Bay Elementary
    Salary: $25 per hour
    FTE: 0.81/32.5 hours per week
    Start Date: ASAP
    Duration: This position works on-on-one with an individual student based on individualized learning needs specific to that student.  In the event the student no longer attends or is no longer enrolled in the district, this position would end.
