    Position Description

    Mingus Union High School
    Position Job Title: Bus Driver
    Position Classification: Level G
    Position Supervision: Transportation Supervisor
    General Statement of Positions Purpose: To play an integral part in ensuring that students are transported safely and on time.
    Qualifications
    Education AND/OR Training:
    • Post High School certificate/license
    • CDL Training
    • First Aid and CPR Training
    Experience:
    • Ability to communicate and work well with staff, parents and children.
    • No prior experience necessary. Will train right candidate.
    Demonstrated Knowledge/Proficiency of Equipment, Tools, Materials and Skills:
    • Demonstrated proficiency in handling toxic and hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens.
    • Required certification by federal, state, city county.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of safety guidelines and equipment operation.
    Principal Duties:
    • May be required to alter working hours to perform regularly assigned duties.
    • Operates assigned vehicles in a safe manner.
    • Performs pre and post trip inspections.
    • Maintains a daily mileage and student count log.
    • Reports safety hazards and the need for major and minor repairs.
    • Cleans and fuels bus.
    • Maintains accurate route maps.
    • Supervises students during routes and trips. Reports behavior problems as required.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Level of accountability and authority:
    • Must use own initiative and judgments in performing job and be responsible for equipment.
    Interactions with others:
    • Interacts primarily with students and staff.
    Time Management:
    • Routine work with little planning needed.
    Working conditions:
    • Increased stress with time deadlines or extreme environmental conditions.
    Physical Requirements
    Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to performs the essential functions.
    The candidate who fills this position is required to:
    • Sit approximately 95% of the time.
    • Walk approximately 2% of the time.
    • Stand approximately 3% of the time.
    • Kneeling and stooping frequently.
    • Lift on an occasional basis under 40 lbs.
    • Reaching with hands and arms on occasion.
    The work environment for this position is the normal for any large bus. With noise levels variation from low to mild based on the type of equipment being used at any given time. Winter time brings low temperatures.
