Job Title: High School Math Department Chair

The Mathematics Department oversees the North Central Mathematics Department that offers a rich variety of courses from Algebra 1 to BC Calculus to support students in their post-secondary goals. The department chair provides instructional leadership and enhances articulation regarding curriculum alignment with Indiana Academic Standards and/or industry standards, where applicable. The department chair facilitates the development and use of common assessments in order to determine instructional strategies that will most effectively meet the needs of students. The duties of the department chair are critical to the overall educational program and require effective and ongoing communication and collaboration with staff and administration. 
 
Qualifications
• ??Valid Indiana teaching license for the assigned grades, level and/or subject(s)
• A minimum of five (5) years of successful secondary classroom teaching experience required
• Master’s degree preferred 
• Building level administrator license preferred
• Demonstrates leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
• Possesses strong pedagogical knowledge and experience with effective content specific instruction and assessment

Performance Responsibilities

• Take an active role in program evaluation, material selection, and implementation for content area, including general education and intervention or support classes
• Research and vet available and potential materials and tools to support classroom instruction
• Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with administrative expectations, district strategic plan, school improvement plan, vertical articulation, and high impact Tier 1 instructional practices 
• Assist in vertical and/or horizontal articulation efforts throughout the district in alignment of content and curriculum, expectations of rigor, professional development opportunities and pedagogy
• Model the practice of mining and analyzing student data to drive collaborative instructional decisions as a critical component of the weekly PLC process
• Promote the creation of common assessments and the utilization of data to drive differentiated instruction
• Co-plan and co-teach to support differentiated instruction and small group instruction
• Support the implementation of inclusionary practices in general education classrooms
• Provide instruction to required number of sections in content area
• Monitor and evaluate emergency sub plans
 
Leadership
• Assist in the observation and evaluation of classroom teaching; including providing actionable and effective feedback
• Assist in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of staff
• Coordinate the inventory and ordering of texts, teaching aids, software, supplies and equipment for content area, including general education and intervention or support classes
• Monitor departmental budget and ensures that materials and supplies are provided as necessary
• Submit department budget requests
• Collaborate on behalf of the department with school and district administration and school counseling regarding master schedule, course descriptions, articulation, and student placement in various courses
• Collaborate with high ability coach to ensure equitable access to and opportunity in honors programming
• Communicate and collaborate with school personnel and families to maximize student opportunities  
• Assist short- and long-term substitute teachers in carrying out their assigned duties 
• Coordinate with administrators and instructional coaches to conduct learning walks and observations to provide teachers with quality feedback to improve practice
 
Professional Development 
• Set annual departmental goals aligned to school improvement plan and district strategic plan
• Partner with instructional coaches to design and facilitate job-embedded professional development based on established goals
• Facilitate all scheduled department meetings. Plan and organize department meetings and submit agendas, attendance, and minutes as directed by school administration
• Attend and actively participate in scheduled curriculum lead team meetings. Disseminate information from curriculum lead team meetings to teachers

Position Function
To oversee a content area (e.g., language arts, foreign language, social studies, math, science) and serve as an instructional leader in the development, coordination and evaluation of the District's curriculum and educational programs in the content area.

Reports To: The teacher reports to the Director of the Career Center and/or JEL Department Chair.
 
General Duties: The Teacher is responsible for teaching groups of students in a classroom/lab setting, based on a curriculum and supported by instructional materials. The Teacher is responsible for developing daily lesson plans to ensure that the Teacher covers the curricular content in a timely manner throughout the semester or school year. The Teacher uses various instructional methods and techniques to meet the unique needs of the  individual students and to assess their learning; the Teacher modifies instruction, re-teaches and remediates to ensure the students’ success. The teacher prepares students to successfully complete industry recognized certification assessment. The teacher is responsible for monitoring, promoting, and supporting Career-Technical Education by assisting with marketing and public relations as assigned.The Teacher will support CTSOs, including student competitions, meetings, fundraising and general CTSO activities. The Teacher will collaborate with their Advisory Board, Professional Learning Community (PLC), Dual Credit Partner, and Community Partnerships. The teacher will provide daily hall supervision prior to class start and after class dismissal.

General Duties: The Teacher is responsible for teaching groups of students in a classroom/lab setting, based on a curriculum and supported by instructional materials. The Teacher is responsible for developing daily lesson plans to ensure that the Teacher covers the curricular content in a timely manner throughout the semester or school year. The Teacher uses various instructional methods and techniques to meet the unique needs of the  individual students and to assess their learning; the Teacher modifies instruction, re-teaches and remediates to ensure the students’ success. The teacher is responsible for monitoring, promoting, and supporting Career-Technical Education by assisting with marketing and public relations as assigned.The Teacher will support CTSOs, including student competitions, meetings, fundraising and general CTSO activities. The Teacher will collaborate with their Advisory Board, Professional Learning Community (PLC), Dual Credit Partner, and Community Partnerships. The teacher will provide daily hall supervision prior to class start and after class dismissal.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
The job of the Special Education Instructional Assistant was established for the purpose(s) of working with individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of students; assisting students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; following educational and specific behavioral plans; and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff. Employees in this classification will receive a variety of assignments including classroom support, lunchroom, playground, etc.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
• Teacher support: Assist teachers in classroom instruction by providing and preparing lesson materials, monitoring the students during their work and helping them in their learning where necessary.
• Student Supervision: Observe students' activities to ensure student safety and well-being and intervene when necessary.
• Lesson materials: Ensure that the necessary materials for teaching a class, such as visual aids, are prepared, up-to-date, and present in the instruction space.
• School procedures: Familiarity with the inner workings of school, such as the structure of the relevant education support and management, the policies, and the regulations.

• Workplace sanitation: The importance of a clean, sanitary workspace for example through use of hand disinfectant and sanitizer, in order to minimize infection risk between colleagues or when working with children.
• Disability types: The nature and types of disabilities affecting the human beings such as physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional or developmental and the specific needs and access requirements of disabled people.
• Learning difficulties: The learning disorders some students face in an academic context, especially Specific Learning Difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and concentration deficit disorders.
• Common children's diseases: The symptoms, characteristics, and treatment of diseases and disorders that often affect children, such as the measles, chickenpox, asthma, the mumps, and head lice.
• Teamwork principles: The cooperation between people characterized by a unified commitment to achieving a given goal, participating equally, maintaining open communication, facilitating effective usage of ideas etc.
• Curriculum objectives: The goals identified in curricula and defined learning outcomes.

• Monitor individual and/or groups of students for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Monitor and manage student behavior in a way that maximizes instructional time.
• Provide ‘re-teaching’ and tutoring sessions around core instruction that was delivered by the
classroom teacher.

• Maintain a record of interventions and progress monitoring.
• Implement, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.

Instructional Assistant will support student achievement in an online credit recovery program aimed to put students on track for high school graduation.

• Provide ‘re-teaching’ and tutoring sessions around core instruction that was delivered by the classroom teacher.
• In collaboration with teaching faculty, identifies students who are below standards in specific skills and knowledge.
• Assist students with assignments that reinforce learning concepts.
• Maintain a record of interventions and progress monitoring.
• Implement, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
• Seek and utilize appropriate resources to enhance student learning and professional practice.

Under the direction of the Principal and Assistant Principal, the Instructional Assistant works with individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a certificated teacher; assisting students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; following educational and specific behavioral plans; and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
• Assist teachers in classroom instruction by providing and preparing lesson materials, monitoring the students during their work and helping them in their learning where necessary.
• Observe students' activities to ensure student safety and well-being and intervene when necessary.
• Ensure that the necessary materials for teaching a class, such as visual aids, are prepared, up-to-date, and present in the instruction space.
• Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary workspace through use of hand disinfectant and sanitizer, in order to minimize infection risk between colleagues or when working with children.
• Monitor individual and/or groups of students for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.  Monitor and manage student behavior in a way that maximizes instructional time.
• Provide ‘re-teaching’ and tutoring sessions around core instruction that was delivered by the classroom teacher.
• In collaboration with teaching faculty, identifies students who are below standards in specific skills and knowledge.
• Assist students with assignments that reinforce learning concepts.
• Maintain a record of interventions and progress monitoring.
• Implement, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.

• Common children's diseases: The symptoms, characteristics, and treatment of diseases and disorders that often affect children, such as the measles, chickenpox, asthma, the mumps, and head lice.

 The Language Facilitator is an instructional assistant who has a primary responsibility for a student with communication needs related to their ability to access and/or use spoken language receptively and expressively. The Language Facilitator is under the direct supervision of the Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students and Speech Language Pathologist with guidance from Special and General Education teachers.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Daily check of Hearing Assistive Technology
• Observe and, if needed, support “on task” behavior of the assigned student in the educational environment as directed by the team teachers
• Check for understanding of oral directions
• When appropriate, have the student repeat directions
• Monitor student follow-through with minimal and decreasing support
• Repetition and expansion of a child’s expressive language
• Act as a narrator when needed in classroom experiences
• Assist in facilitation and encouragement of a student’s Augmentative Communication Device
• Encourage classroom participation
• Encourage age-appropriate self-advocacy and social interaction
• Encourage and facilitate, when needed, interaction with peers and school staff
• Model age-appropriate language to increase expressive language skills
• Understand the student’s IEP goals and keep records to share with staff for progress monitoring
• Support vocabulary, concepts, and additional language concepts in the educational setting
• Work individually with the student on skill acquisition, as appropriate, and decided upon by Case Conference Committee members.
• Assist in the implementation of the IEP, especially in relation to hearing and language support in the educational environment
 
 
TRAINING MAY CONSIST OF:
 
• Shadowing the Teacher of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students 
• Specialized training or the willingness to participate in training in the use of assistive devices, amplification, and language facilitation techniques
 
 
EDUCATION:
