    There is a Dean of Students position available for Mansfield Senior High School for the 2024-2025 school year.
     

     

    Job Objectives
    The Dean of Students shall have the general overall authority under the immediate supervision of the Building Administrator to supervise, and assist in the discipline of students consistent with the provisions of the Board Adopted Student Code of Conduct and the Ohio Revised Code. This position requires the use of independent judgment and discretion.

    Certification Requirements
    Valid grades K-12 teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education
    Administrative License preferred
    Master’s in Education Administration preferred

    Qualifications:
    The Dean of Students shall:

     
    • Demonstrate an ability to develop good working relationships with other school employees, students, parents and community members.
    • Possess the qualities to be professional, courteous, flexible in dealing with students, parents, school employees, and all others with whom he/she come in contact.
    • Be able to make sound, common sense decisions after carefully investigating, securing and weighing all available facts.
    • Be well organized, thorough and efficient in the completion of all assigned duties.
    • Be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in spoken and written communication.
    • Have integrity, sincerity, honesty, and a devotion to serving students which meets or exceeds the expectation of the building principal, Superintendent, District Level Administration and Board of Education.
    Essential Performance Responsibilities
    Work professionally, cooperatively, and effectively with the guidance counselors and administration in meeting the identified needs of the students as requested, appropriate, necessary and legal within the realm of pupil personnel and the regulation of student conduct.
     
    • Assist the administration in the establishment and implementation of all school rules and procedures.
    • Assist in the enforcement of all student discipline and attendance rules fairly and consistently.
    • Utilize and access Community resources to support students and their families.
    • Assume supervision of students responsibilities in the hallways, cafeteria, parking lots and school grounds as directed.
    • Be “on duty” at all major co-curricular activities and in attendance at all other activities in accordance with a schedule made weekly by the administrative team.
    • Assist the principal, counselors, and teachers with the annual academic awards program.
    • Assist the principal/counselors with the organization of graduation.
    • Responsible for monitoring of the school grounds and facilities before, during and after school hours as assigned.
    • Provide input to the building principal in the development of the master schedule/duty assignments.
    • Work with Attendance Officer on all custody and residency questions.
     
    • Responsible for assisting in the discipline for all students
    • Assist in the administration of all grade assessments:
     
    • Organizing the test administration
    • Arranging for test monitors
    • Work with the principal and test coordinator to organize the tutoring program
    • Work with the District Test Assessment Specialist and Principal to get results back to students in a timely and confidential fashion
     
    • Responsible for all car registration, sale and distribution of parking tags to students and staff.
    • Enforce all parking lot rules and regulations
    • Organize, with advisors, the homecoming and senior assemblies and prom.
    • Recruit and supervise students to maintain the communication venues and update the calendar in the cafeteria.
    • Maintain storage of textbooks and keep current all textbook inventories. Working with teachers, establish fines for damaged books and replacement costs for lost books
    • Monitor weekly Friday school detentions.
     
    • Assist the special education program as follows:
     
    • Member of the MFE Team, where appropriate;
    • Member of the IEP Team, where appropriate;
    • Contact person for parents with concerns as directed; and
    • Contact person for special education department
     
    • Member of intervention assistance team (IAT). Be in attendance at all IAT meetings, usually one (1) per week.
    • Responsible for building key distribution including the return when teachers leave/retire. Work with the A.D. in the distribution of keys for coaches
    • Assist in the monitoring of student lunch periods
    • Work with the Administration and the stage manager; supervise the set-up for all events scheduled. These would include building rental activities as well as regular school events.
    • Monitor all school wide elections, i.e. homecoming, student council and class elections
    • Assist in the Response to Intervention (RTI) Process as a team member
    • Assist the administration regarding student activity signs or any other signs to be displayed in halls
    • Monitor student movement in hallways, before school, between classes and after school.
     
    • Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned
    Evaluation:
    Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the content of the job description. However, evaluation in the position of Dean of Students will be reflected in the personnel file as a teacher. The existence of an evaluation system will not provide an expectancy of continued employment and the decision to maintain the employment of this position rests solely with the Board of Education and the recommendation of the Superintendent.

    Working Conditions:
    • Exposure to the following conditions may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable:
    • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens
    • Interaction with agitated or upset individuals
    • Interaction with disruptive or unruly students
    • Exposure to student commotion
    • Exposure to adverse weather conditions and seasonal temperature extremes
    • Duties may include riding in a vehicle
    • Duties may include telephone contact, paperwork and conferences with parents and/or guardians
    • Duties may include working to meet schedules and deadlines
    • Duties may require working during the evening and/or weekend.

    Terms of Employment: Per the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education/Mansfield School Employees Association Negotiated Agreement.
