JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a collaborative, pro-active, highly organized team player to provide specialized, direct instruction and consultation to students who are blind or visually impaired ages 3-26 years in various instructional settings. Applicants must be able to determine students’ orientation and mobility needs, make recommendations for services and mobility devices as part of an Individualized Education Program (IEP)/Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). This position requires familiarity with technology for the visually impaired and knowledge of various eye conditions. Additional responsibilities include planning and conducting individualized orientation and mobility evaluations in assigned locations, synthesizing evaluation findings, and communicating results with students, families, and members of the IEP/IFSP team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
• Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility from an accredited university or college required.
• Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist Certificate (COMS) from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) required.
• Knowledge of current state and federal mandates related to instruction of students with disabilities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
 
• Travel to the students' assigned schools and/or homes to provide direct and/or consultative services.
• Perform orientation and mobility initial and re-evaluations that focus on long- and short-term needs of the student.
• Create data-driven evaluation reports that include information on student needs and strengths, the educational impact of the results, and the determined service frequency and duration.
• Contribute to other appropriate portions of the IEP, such as goals and objectives and supplementary aids and services.
• Provide consultation and support services to parents, educators, other team members, and students' sighted peers.
• Communicate regularly with parents, classroom teachers, physical education teachers, physical therapists, and other school personnel to assist in home and classroom modifications to ensure reinforcement of appropriate orientation and mobility skills.
• Work with the teacher of students with visual impairments to conduct the functional vision assessment as it relates to independent travel.
• Evaluate the student's progress on an ongoing basis and keep progress notes on each student.
• Prepares, monitors and communicates IEP goals, supplementary aids and services and  goal progress reports per state and federal guidelines
• Participates in individualized educational planning and placement committees to assist in the identification, placement, and program planning for students with disabilities
• Maintains student records in accordance with school, district, state, and federal guidelines and statutes
• Keeps abreast of new developments in the field by reading journals and publications, attending professional development, seminars or conferences, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide a safe and productive educational environment
• Identifies student needs and works collaboratively with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students
• Communicates with students, parents and school staff on student progress
• Analyzes tasks relative to areas of occupation, performance skills, activity demands, contexts and student factors to implement the intervention plan
• Maintains safe therapeutic equipment by monitoring wear and condition, and recommending repair or replacement as needed.
• Participate in individual school and/or system-wide programs to promote a positive and caring school climate
• Comply with confidentiality and FERPA
• Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Livonia Public Schools is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the positions of Third-Year Interns for the 2024-2025 school year. The candidate will be provided with a comprehensive field experience under the supervision of an experienced, certified School Psychologist, which will minimally include the following: 
 
1. At least 2 hours of face to face supervision per week, plus additional experiences observing the supervisor (and/or the other 15 other highly qualified School Psychologists) facilitate Special Education eligibility meetings, FBA/BIPs, problem solving meetings, etc.
2. Extensive training in psycho-educational evaluation techniques with diverse populations
3. Training in cross-battery assessment and identification of reading/writing disorders, including dyslexia and dysgraphia.
4. Participation in building level problem solving/MTSS teams
5. Training in conducting suicide assessments and threatening behavior assessments
6. Opportunity to participate in all district- and departmental-level Professional Development trainings
7. Training in digital administration of assessments (i.e., the Pearson Q-Interactive system)
8. Access to a large range of assessment tools
9. Participation in biweekly/monthly case consultation groups with other School Psychologists and Social Workers in order to learn from ongoing cases in other buildings
10. Opportunity to review the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum utilized by the district and assist with school-wide implementation
11. Opportunity to contribute to initial “problem identification” or the likely nature of a student, classroom, or school problem in order to help develop intervention efforts as part of a problem solving team
