Lake Forest Elementary School District 67 and Lake Forest Community High School District 115 are seeking a Director of Fiscal Services/CSBO.
Position Summary: The Director of Fiscal Services/CSBO is a shared service position for Lake Forest Community High School District 115 and Lake Forest Elementary School District 67. The Director of Fiscal Services/CSBO provides strategic leadership and oversight of the District’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements while supporting the mission and goals of the Districts
Education, Experience, and Licensure (required and preferred):
- Current Professional Educator License (PEL) and Chief School Business Official (CSBO) endorsement (required)
- Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Accounting, Business, Finance, Technology, or related field
- Relevant experience and/or post-secondary training in Business

Essential Functions: - Exercise discretion, independent judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality in all business operations and decision-making activities.
- Lead the interpretation and application of financial regulations, Board policies, and collective bargaining agreements; advise the Chief Operating Officer on compliance matters and emerging issues.
- Direct all business operations including budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable/receivable, investments, employee benefits, and residency verification.
- Supervise and mentor Business Services staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment aligned with District goals.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve financial and operational procedures, incorporating research and best practices to ensure efficiency, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee preparation of the annual audit and ensure timely, accurate completion of financial reports and required state and federal submissions.
- Manage annual budget preparation and monitoring; complete short- and long-term financial projections to support District planning and decision-making.
- Maintain District cash flow projections and oversee investment activities in alignment with Board policies and financial best practices.
- Identify operational improvement opportunities and recommend enhancements to optimize service delivery and internal controls.
- Serve as a strategic advisor and employee resource on matters related to insurance, benefits, and leaves of absence.
- Represent the District by actively participating in the Special Education Cooperative (TruNorth) Finance Committee and professional associations at the local, state, and national levels.
- Support the development of facilities and capital project plans, ensuring financial alignment with District priorities.
- Lead District committees such as the Insurance Committee and 457(b) Investment Committee; participate in collective bargaining negotiations as a financial advisor.
- Ensure purchasing and bidding activities are conducted in compliance with District policies and applicable state laws.
- Champion a culture of compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Illinois Program Accounting Manual (IPAM), and District internal controls.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel materials. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
In the work environment, the employee is regularly exposed to video display and regularly works in office environmental conditions. The employee regularly works in the evenings or on weekends. The employee frequently works with the use of a personal vehicle. The employee will have contact with employees and the public which requires appropriate demeanor and apparel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with regular exposure to loud classrooms, hallways, or cafeterias.
Salary/Benefits: - Salary Range $160,000 - $220,000 per year, commensurate with skills and experience.
