Position Title: HVAC Technician (Maintenance IV) - 240 Days

SUMMARY: Perform skilled journey level work in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning trade. Inspect, repair, install, service and maintain air conditioning systems and related equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.  Depending on the assignment, duties may include but are not limited to the following: 
 
• Ability to troubleshoot a variety of heating and air conditioning systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair refrigeration equipment.
• Trouble shooting electrical problems with motors, contactors and switches.
• Change compressors, motors, coils and tubing.
• Program thermostats and setting schedules in an energy management system.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment in accordance with District preventive maintenance schedules.
• Work with contractors in replacing HVAC equipment.
• When emergencies occur, on-call responsibilities are required.
• Preform electrical repairs to buildings and lighting fixtures.
• Performs general maintenance work inside and outside the schools such as carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
• Operate power equipment, including vehicles.
• Maintain tools, equipment and vehicles.
• Assist other maintenance team members as needed.
• Provide accounting of maintenance activities performed on proper District forms.
• Perform all essential duties at the journeyperson level with minimal supervision.
• Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. KNOWLEDGE OF: The principals, practices, methods, techniques, materials, tools, equipment, layouts and set ups used in the area of HVAC and electrical systems. Knowledge of VRF and BAS systems is a plus.
  
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 
• High School Diploma or GED
• Environmental Protection Agency Clean Act Certification
• Four (4) years’ experience as a HVAC service technician OR Certification of Completion from an accredited HVAC program
• Willingness to attend classes relative to specialized equipment.
• Ability to work with school personnel, contractors and their employees, and the public
• Ability to work in the absence of immediate supervision
• Ability to work with other people
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Environmental Protection Agency Clean Act Certification
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
•  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees of organization.
 
 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

REASONING ABILITY:
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions either written or oral.
 
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
•  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands and finger to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms such as to operate vibrating machinery. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as tool box. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. such motors, jack hammers. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

SUMMARY:   To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
   
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned. 
 
• Performs district wide grounds maintenance work such as operation of various maintenance equipment, moving furniture, salting, field marking and maintenance of underground sprinkling systems. 
• Performs general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as ceiling, roof, electrical, plumbing, concrete, masonry, and glazing, insulation, tile and pump and fan repairs.  Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies. 
• Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Ed. guidelines.  Apply herbicides and pesticides across the district as needed in accordance with State and Federal laws. 
• Maintain spraying equipment. 
• Maintain applicator license by acquiring necessary continuing education credits every year.
