SUMMARY: To enhance student well-being and academic success, the Student Social Emotional
Health Specialist facilitates the provision of social, physical, and emotional support tailored to

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)
• Provide individual and group support sessions to address students’ social and emotional needs on
an ongoing basis
• Conduct assessments to identify students who may require additional support and collaborate
with other support staff at Longley to develop personalized care plans
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create a supportive environment for
students’ emotional well-being
• Offer crisis intervention and support during challenging situations or emergencies
• Educate students on coping strategies, emotional regulation techniques, and stress management
skills
• Administer basic health-related care, including first aid, medication management, and health
education to students
• Coordinate with external agencies and community resources to connect students with specialized
services and adjust strategies as needed
• Support and collaborate with Next STEP’s restorative process team to ensure harm is repaired
and students have opportunities to learn critical social and emotional skills for success in life
• Maintain accurate records and develop effective data tracking systems of student interactions,
progress, and referrals for further assistance
• Stay informed about current trends and research in social-emotional learning and mental health
to inform practice and program development

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen.  The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee must be able to push items of 50lbs such as pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision as these abilities are imperative for reliable data collection.
