  •   Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a Library Media Specialist for Ledyard Middle School beginning in the 2025 - 2026 school year. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the successful candidate will administer and maintain libraries or collections of information, for access through reference or borrowing. This is to fill an anticipated opening.
    Responsibilities:
    • Plan and teach classes on topics such as information literacy, library instruction, and technology use
    • Teach students basic computer skills, such as searching computerized databases
    • Review and evaluate materials, using book reviews, catalogs, faculty recommendations, and current holdings to select and order print, audio-visual, and electronic resources
    • Collaborate with grade level/classroom teachers in the development and implementation of cross-disciplinary projects or learning experiences
    • Promote literacy by creating opportunities and events that include students, families, and staff
    • Check books in and out of the library
    • Keep up-to-date records of circulation and materials, maintain inventory, and correct cataloging errors
    • Search standard reference materials, including online sources and the Internet, to answer students' reference questions
    • Code, classify, and catalog books, publications, audio-visual aids, and other library materials based on subject matter or standard library classification systems
    • Assemble and arrange display materials
    • Serve as a resource to the school community

     Qualifications:
    • CT 062 Library Media Specialist certification
    • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
    • Master’s Degree in related area preferred
    • Successful prior library media experience is a plus.
    Skills:
    • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles, and methodologies of teaching and learning and of current practices in library media
    • Ability to manage print, non-print, and electronic collections
    • Ability to collaborate with colleagues
    • Develop and maintain strong partnership with students and their families
    • Knowledge of library software and search engines
    Additional Duties:
    • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
    Salary and Benefits: Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
    • Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
