    J O B    D E S C R I P T I O N
     
    Position Title:         Bus Driver
    Department   :         Transportation
    Reports To    :         Director of Transportation
     
    SUMMARY:  Drives bus to transport students over specified routes according to time schedule and various activities.  Complies with State of Colorado driving and traffic regulations. 
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.
    Duties and responsibilities may include:
    • Performs and properly completes daily pre-trip inspections.
    • Drives a school bus safely and professionally obeying all traffic laws and regulations.
    • Complies with discipline policies as set forth by the Board of Education and reports undisciplined students to the proper administration.
    • Transports only authorized students.
    • Picks-up and discharges students only at authorized stops.
    • Participates in on-site training.
    • Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus.
    • Keeps assigned bus clean (including washing windows and body of bus, periodically).
    • Reports mechanical failures to bus maintenance on required forms.
    • Reports all accidents and completes necessary accident forms.
    • Is familiar with all Colorado Rules and Regulations governing operation of school transportation vehicles.
    • Conducts emergency evacuation drills at least twice a year (once each semester).
    • Keeps a daily mileage log.
    • Must meet insurance carrier requirements for insurability.
     
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supervises students while transporting them by bus.
     
    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and/or responsibility satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  Must be able to pass a DOT physical and DOT Drug/Alcohol Screening.
     
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).
    • Must pass State Skills Test and State Written Test.
    • Must pass CPR and First Aid Test.
     
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Language skills required for this job may include:
    • Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and manuals.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and staff.
      
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Mathematical skills required at all levels include:
    • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide.  
    • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
     
    REASONING ABILITY:  
    Reasoning ability may include:
    • Ability to solve practical problems involving several variables in various situations..
    • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, and/or diagram form.
     
    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    Other skills and abilities essential and required for this job may include:
    • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
    • Ability to read and understand maps.
    • Ability to pass the State Skills Test, State Written Test, and Department of Transportation physical.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
    • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    • Continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand.
    • Frequently required to bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.

    • Frequently required to use hand strength to grasp tools.
    • Continuously required to drive on the job.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 lb. such as students, or wheelchairs.
    • Required to use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Required to be able to hear conversation in quiet and noisy environments.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.  The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other employees.  The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
     
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND EVALUATION:
    Terms of employment and evaluation for this job will include:
    • A nine-month school year contract, for either full-time or part-time employment, based on job need. 
    • Salary and fringe benefits to be determined by the Board of Education as indicated on the adopted Bus Driver Salary Schedule. 
    • An annual performance evaluation to be completed by the Transportation Director.
