Teach orchestra instruments from beginner level up to intermediate.  This includes teaching students how to play the instrument and how to read notes.  Orchestra instruments include violin, viola, string bass, and percussion.  The orchestra students meet before school for 45 minutes.   Concerts are held at least twice each year (Holiday and Spring) with an accompanying assembly for the host school with additional assemblies at other schools if that school has a significant percent of orchestra participation or if the school desires it for orchestra recruiting purposes.  There may be other concerts as well (e.g. hosted by the middle school for recruiting or combined with other elementary school orchestras in the district) throughout the year.  The concerts are planned and carried out by the orchestra teacher in cooperation with any other teachers (band, orchestra, choir, etc.) who may be involved.

BACKGROUND: Jordan PREP is an academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program designed to develop abstract reasoning and problem solving skills.  Jordan PREP identifies middle school students with the potential to pursue higher education in a STEM related field. The program is presented over the course of four summers. PREP expects to serve approximately 160 students during the 2025 summer.. It will operate from Tuesday, June 17th to Wednesday, July 23rd. There will be no school on July 4th.  The program will include coursework, team projects, class presentations, field trips, special events and examinations. 

LOCATION:
Jordan Applied Technical Center (JATC)

EMPLOYMENT DATES:
June 17th - July 23rd, 2025

SALARY:
MISC J ($44.59/Hour)  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Program Instructors will formally teach up to three 70-minute classes each day Monday through Thursday with a formal break .
• Attend a meeting with administration and teaching assistants prior to the first day. 
• Formulate lesson plans from a set of PREP curriculum and in accordance with PREP objectives and philosophy.
• Teach up to 3 classes each day for 4 days a week. 
• Administer quizzes, tests, final examinations and other instruments based on
• PREP-USA curricula.
• Prior experience working with adolescents (preferred).

KNOWLEDGE:
• Teaching experience in STEM and background with STEM Fair project creation.  

SKILLS:
• Supervise up to 35 junior high age students
• Lead classroom discussions/activities

ABILITIES:
• Ability to utilize effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records
• Ability to assess student work according to general instructional standards

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work on JATC Campus Monday-Thursday

SCHEDULE:
• Must be available to work 
• Must also be available for approximately four hours of training prior to June 11th (exact time tbd).
