At Helena Public Schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As a High School Counselor, you will work as part of a team that serves nearly 8,000 students at 18 campuses across Helena. These positions serve a 187-day contract scheduled for 7 hours a day.
Some of what you will do:
- Plan, organize and deliver the district counseling program. Provide system support through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs.
- Implement the district guidance curriculum using effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured group sessions for students.
- Implement the individual planning component by guiding individuals and groups of students and their parents or guardians through the development of educational and career plans.
- Provide responsive services through the effective use of individual and small-group counseling, consultation and referral skills.
- Provide short-term counseling to assist students during transitions, triage counseling, and other high-stress situations.
- Provide immediate behavioral and crisis intervention as necessary. May involve suicide and threat assessments.
- Assist teachers and administrators with behavioral and emotional issues by communicating with students to find the cause of their distress; work to maximize coping skills for students in difficult situations.
- Discuss the counseling department management system and the program action plans with the school administrators.
- Collect and analyze data to guide program direction. Conduct a yearly program audit.
- Monitor students on a regular basis as they progress in school.
- Is a student advocate, leader, collaborator and systems change agent.
Who we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will possess multiple endorsement areas, and at least a year of successful experience in high school counseling.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
Starting salary range is $42,872.81-$66,283.51 based on education and experience in addition to a comprehensive benefit package.
