Qualifications

Summary
• The Director of Student Services provides leadership, management and coordination of the overall functions of student services to include state and federal grants, child welfare, enrollment, attendance and transfers, discipline and emergency operations.

Responsibilities and Requirements
• Directs the development of Board policies related to Student Services
• Prepares timely and concise reports and recommendations to the Superintendent and the School Board, including comprehensive financial and program data for all aspects of Student Services
• Establishes procedures for an array of preventative services for K-12 levels.
• Plans, develops, organizes, implements, and supervises all programs in the District for child welfare, attendance and transfers, discipline, and emergency operations.
• Establishes Student Services department goals for academic achievement, student attendance, PBIS, parent and community relations, and district management of resources for all students at risk.
• Oversees and monitors students placed in nontraditional programs.
• Directs the discipline processes and monitoring systems for the District
• Develops and directs the emergency operations plans for the District
• Monitors and regularly audits the safety plans of each school and district campus
• Oversees and monitors the provision of services for students who qualify as homeless under the McKinney Vento Act
• Oversees and monitors disciplinary hearings to include expulsion hearings to the School Board
• Supervises in-district transfers and open enrollment procedures and monitors impact on schools.
• Collects and audits all attendance and enrollment data including that required for 100th day student count report and determine student/staff ratios, reports data as requested to the Arizona Department of Education
• Directs student attendance and behavior processes, including the coordination of schools’ student handbooks.
• Collaborates with Lake Havasu City Police Department to secure School Resource Officers and monitor the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA)
• Collaborates with Department of Family Services and Juvenile Court Services
• Oversees the school counseling program at all levels to ensure proper training and implementation for the K-12 School Counseling Student Services Plan
• Coordinates all Title IX investigations involving students and provides summary reports to the Superintendent.
• Addresses all parent complaints submitted to the District Office
• Works closely with Directors in all areas to evaluate existing student service programs.
• Communicates to the Superintendent the requirements and needs of the school division as perceived by the school division employees and community stakeholders.
• Represents The Office of The Superintendent at local, regional, state and national meetings and events as designated.
• Serves in a leadership capacity on various division committees.
• Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned.

• EVALUATION:  evaluate and provide individual student progress on regular basis and keep requisite records; justify promotions, retentions, and special program recommendation
• HEALTH & WELFARE:  identify and refer unusual student behavior to appropriate specialists; report to the nurse any injury or illness to a student or self
• DISCIPLINE:  be responsible for enforcing building approved discipline plan; manage behavior of students to create a safe physical and emotional classroom environment; assist IEP team to develop individual behavioral contract and behavioral intervention plans to promote student success
• SUPERVISION:  be responsible for the supervision of students at all times
 
    OPERATION
• POLICIES & REGULATIONS:  know and observe Board policies and regulations
• PUPIL ATTENDANCE & TARDINESS:  keep records of pupil attendance
• TEACHER ABSENCE:  advise administration in accordance with district policy
• BOOKS & SUPPLIES:  account for school and district property, as required
• PHYSICAL PLANT:  advise administration immediately of needed repairs, replacements and/or unsafe building conditions
• COMPLETION OF DAILY DUTIES:  remain in school after dismissal of students, as necessary to complete daily duties; attend meetings: hold parent conferences, etc.
• EMERGENCY PROCEDURES:  follow school regulations regarding emergency procedures
• ATTENDANCE:  report to work daily at times assigned and remain on thru time prescribed in district policy
 
   FINANCE/BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
• RECOMMENDATIONS:  responsible for submitting and justifying recommendations to Building Principal or designee
 
   SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
• PARENT CONFERENCES:  meet with parents as required to advise them concerning student needs and progress
• INTERPRETATION:  interpret school policies and programs to students and parents
 
   OTHER
• HEALTH:  responsible for performing those duties which protect the health and safety of students and employees
• OTHER DUTIES:  responsible for performing other job-related duties as assigned by the building principal
