Substitute Classroom Teacher
Summary:  In the absence of the regular teacher, manages student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school district.
 
Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform all aspects of the position as described below satisfactorily. Essential Functions:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
• Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
• Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies;
 
• Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students;
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
• Responds efficiently to emergency and unusual situations for the purpose of keeping all students safe;
• Reports to office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary;
• Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
• Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate;
• Organizes students for effective instruction;
• Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building;
• Provides report or summary of activities accomplished, lesson plans completed and not completed, any additional information the regular teacher may need to know when returning to the classroom.
• Completion of substitute feedback on AESOP, although voluntary, is suggested.
• Collects and places students’ papers in regular teacher’s desk;
• Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place;
• Determines if his/her services will be required for the next school day;
• Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies;
• Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities;
• Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.
 
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent individuals.
• Is sensitive to and supportive of the needs of students with disabilities and/or from culturally diverse backgrounds.
 
• Adheres to and enforces all board policies.
• Conducts other duties or assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor or building administration.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be able to follow oral and written directions and establish effective working relationships with staff and students. Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.
 
Education and Experience:
• Valid Teaching Credential issued by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE)
 
Special Requirements:
• Candidate must be at least 22 years of age or have completed 2 years of college.
• Candidate must attend an orientation/training session.
• Candidate must agree to authorize Center for Collaborative Solutions Council of Governments to conduct a Criminal History Background Check/fingerprinting.
 
• Candidate must have access to reliable transportation.
• Candidate must possess strong moral character.

The following school districts have contracted with Comprehensive Substitute Solutions to provide classroom substitute teachers: Batavia, Bethel-Tate, Clermont County ESC, Clermont Northeastern, Deer Park, Felicity-Franklin, Finneytown, Forest Hills, Great Oaks, Hamilton County ESC, Indian Hill, Lockland, Loveland, Madeira, Mariemont, Milford, Mt. Healthy, New Richmond, Norwood, North College Hill, Northwest, Oak Hills, Princeton, Reading, Southwest, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place, Sycamore, Three Rivers, West Clermont, Williamsburg, Winton Woods and Wyoming.

If you are a retired or soon to be retired teacher, administrator, or other educational professional and you want to be considered for classroom substitute positions in one or more of these districts, you may apply for this position.
