Position: Intervention Specialist - Cross Category Unit
Reports to: Miami Whitewater Elementary Building Principal

We are seeking an experienced Intervention Specialist (Cross Category Unit) for the 2025 - 2026 school year and beyond to join our team at Miami Whitewater Elementary School.
Job Description:
The Intervention Specialist (K – 5, Mild – Moderate) is responsible for providing one-to-one and/or small group intervention and will focus on a self-contained cross categorical unit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Lead the IEP team in data collection and development of student IEP's.
- Lead the IEP team meetings.
- Provide specialized instruction in major curricular domains.
- Provide an ongoing system of performance evaluation based upon formal and informal assessment techniques and data collection.
- Provide training in appropriate modes of communication which will facilitate a student’s functioning in the school and home setting.
- Provide ongoing communication with parents in addition to periodic reported based on school calendar and written form and conferencing in conjunction with professionals involved in the student’s education.
- Adhere to and be knowledgeable of all provisions outlined in federal, state, and local guidelines for evaluation, identification, placement, and educational programming for special education students.
- Conduct individual task analysis of student skills relevant to the curricular domains.
- Develop individualized student schedules containing each day’s major activities.
- Work as an integral team member with related services specialists, professionals from outside agencies and parents in implementing a student’s IEP.
- Work cooperatively with fellow special education teachers in developing comprehensive programs for students.
- Provide a safe learning environment in the classroom and community.
- Oversee schedules and duty assignments of paraprofessional(s) assigned to the Cross Category unit or individual students within the Cross Category unit.
Working knowledge of Ohio Extended Standards. - Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Ohio State Certification as an Intervention Specialist.
- Ohio State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
- Orton-Gillingham training preferred or a willingness to get trained through our School District.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and administration.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations: Valid certificate/licensure as issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student, staff, or sensitive information is non-negotiable.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and the community.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written and oral communications. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and BOE policies.
- Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. verbal (including listening) and non-verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to provide demonstrated leadership in the execution of communication strategies.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Pushing the agenda and goals of the school district is imperative.
- Political acumen and organizational support is strong focus as well.
