The Director of Engagement will specialize in working directly with the superintendent, schools, families, and community to cultivate a generational learning experience that empowers educators, parents, and community stakeholders to sustain family engagement and improve student performance in the district. The Director of Engagement will represent D91 in a positive manner and implement cross-functional strategies in the areas of family and community engagement and communication that improves student achievement. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
Minimum of 4 years of experience in community engagement, education policy, and/or public affairs.
Proven experience in building community partnerships, facilitating training, developing presentations for various audiences, and crisis management.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree highly preferred.
Experience in education, community engagement, or public policy.
Principal or administrative experience is highly preferred.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners.
Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
Understanding of D91 policies and structure.
Ability to analyze and present data reports.
Fluent in other languages, Spanish preferred.
The Director of Engagement will work directly with the Superintendent, schools, families, and the broader community to foster a culture of engagement that enhances student achievement. This role will lead efforts to build sustainable relationships, implement strategic initiatives, and create a positive district culture that strengthens family and community involvement.
Lead and manage Parent Coordinators.
Serve as a liaison for parent/caregiver concerns on behalf of the Superintendent.
Proactively engage families and community members to attend district meetings and events.
Collaborate with district departments and external partners to develop and deliver research-based parent workshops.
Build and maintain relationships with principals to support school-level engagement efforts.
Organize and facilitate key district events in conjunction with the PTO, such as Back to School events, Education Summit, and Spring Fling.
Attend and represent the district at community events, festivals, and meetings.
Organize meetings between the Superintendent and elected officials.
Maintain a database of partners, community leaders, business owners, and parents to support district initiatives.
Provide a high level of customer service to families, schools, and community members.
Manage and update district websites and social media platforms.
Organize, analyze, and report school- and community-level data based on established metrics.
Arrange translation and sign language interpretation services as needed.
Coordinate video recaps and quarterly community book readings for the Superintendent.
Serve as the district’s McKinney-Vento Liaison and Title IX & Non-Compliance Liaison.
Organize and facilitate Citizen Advisory Council meetings.
Attend monthly external partner meetings (Village, Community Center, Library, Park District) to ensure alignment with community agencies.
Assist the Superintendent and principals in fostering engagement that directly supports student achievement.
Attend and participate in district-wide initiatives, mandates, and Board meetings.
Order district-branded materials for community engagement events.
Evening and weekend hours as needed.
Must adhere to performance guidelines set by executive leadership.
Other duties as assigned.
260 workdays per year (full-time position).
Salary commensurate with experience. Range is $80,000 - $90,000.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Appropriately licensed/certified (LBS1) by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Competence in a variety of teaching and behavioral methodologies and strategies.
Competence in the use of technology, diagnostic tools, and other instructional materials
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written..
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
High level of professionalism and ethics.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop Individual EducationPlans (IEP) that meet State and Federal Guidelines.
Coordinate, implement, and support students’ Individual Education Plan, including long-range goals and short-term objectives.
Develop and administer comprehensive lesson plans and instructional materials that allow for the provision of individualized, whole group, or small group research-based instruction and also allows students access to the general education curriculum.
Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning that supports optimal educational experiences as well as social and emotional well being.
Plan and conduct activities that provide a balanced program of instruction, including allowing time and opportunity for students to observe, question and investigate.
Foster cooperative social and emotional behavior through activities/group projects, and assist students in forming satisfying relationships with staff and peers.
Conduct ongoing assessments of the academic, behavioral, emotional and physical performance of each student.
Confer with parents/guardians, teachers, support staff, specialists, and administrators in a positive and productive manner in attempts to resolve student behavioral and academic problems.
Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare all reports and paperwork as required by federal and state laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Promote parent participation and involvement in educational activities and IEP meetings and decisions.

Establish, implement, and enforce rules and procedures related to appropriate classroom behavior: allow for and maintain a positive learning environment.
Provide a variety of motivators to students to assist them in achieving their fullest intellectual potentials.
Assist students in the development of self-esteem by providing opportunities for classroom successes and by fostering positive peer relationships.
Provide adequate information to applicable stakeholders for meetings and conferences when considering placement or reassignment of students.
Establish and maintain ongoing communication with staff as required.
Maintain effective (positive, constructive, tactful) on-going communication with parent/guardian (i.e., notes home to parents, phone contacts, conferences) to promote home/school cooperation.
Procure instructional materials and supplies necessary to facilitate the long-range goals for Least Restrictive Educational programming.
Provide input regarding the curriculum to the Principal and Special Education Department (including administration and colleagues)
Develop a personal plan for continued professional growth.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for support staff and provide input to admin on their job performance as requested.
Coordinate the appropriate distribution of classroom accommodations, supplementary aids and services, and behavior intervention plans with applicable staff.
Maintain compliance with Special Education paperwork and procedures.
Works cooperatively with general education classroom teachers to modify work, curriculum, and instruction.
Accept other responsibilities and duties, relevant to teaching assignment, as may be assigned by administration.
EVALUATION: Performance evaluations will occur in accordance with District 91 teacher evaluation processes and procedures.
