    Lead Teacher – Science

    TITLE: Secondary Lead Teacher

    QUALIFICATIONS:  

    1. NYS Permanent Certification as a teacher in content area in which teacher performs duties of Lead Teacher.
    2. At least 5 years of successful teaching experience.
    3. Demonstrated skills in working with people and facilitating decisions.
    4. Cogent communication/problemsolving skills.
    5. Knowledge of content area curriculum and curriculum development process.
    6. Knowledge of the peer teaching process.

    REPORTS TO: Directly responsible to the building principal and will work collaboratively with the Curriculum Directors and/or Deputy Superintendent. 

    JOB GOALS: The Lead Teacher is charged with the improvement of instructional skills of staff members in their building content area through collegial interaction/peer coaching.
    The Lead Teacher coordinates departmental activities so that each student may derive maximum benefit from their educational programs.
    The Lead Teacher promotes communication between content area teachers, the curriculum facilitator, District administrators and parents.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Acting as a liaison to Deputy Superintendent  and District Curriculum leadership team
    2. Facilitating department meetings/professional learning communities at the building level
    3. Attending building level teacher leader meetings (principal’s cabinet)
    4. Advising administration on budget needs
    5. Advising administration on master schedule considerations
    6. Leading analysis of building-level achievement data
    7. Tracking and facilitating RtI services within the department (does not provide direct services to students)
    8. Assisting with coordination of substitute teachers
    9. Modeling/coaching best practice with all teachers
    10. Assisting with materials management and supplies
    11. Recommending professional development as needed
    12. Assisting directors with textbook and material recommendations
    13. Facilitating administration and correcting of all exams/assessments including midterms, finals, NYS assessments and regents exams

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The position of Lead Teacher is a contract year teaching position with additional responsibilities.

    STIPEND:    Stipend and release time determined by size of department.  Stipends are not added to base salary.

    FILLING OF POSITION: All Lead Teacher positions shall be posted in accordance with the terms of the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Fairport Educators Association.  Lead Teacher positions shall be posted on a three-year cycle.

    EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the home school administrator.
