QUALIFICATIONS: | Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferred. Valid South Carolina Professional Teaching Certificate in the content area. At least five (5) years of experience in public school teaching and/or administration and supervision. Experience delivering professional development and coaching teachers. |

JOB SUMMARY: | The Content Specialist provides standards-driven and content-specific support for instruction through training, curriculum development, assessment writing, and data analysis with an emphasis on increasing student learning. |
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the implementation and supervision of quality instruction throughout district programs.
Ascertains strengths and weaknesses of the curriculum and implements curriculum changes as needed.
Conducts demonstration lessons as necessary.
Determines in-service needs for content area personnel and assists in organizing appropriate staff development with the Staff Development Director.
Arranges and/or conducts professional development sessions with an emphasis on the utilization of best practices in instruction.
Assists Assistant Directors in the selection of textbooks and instructional materials.
Coordinates the ongoing development of the district curriculum and curriculum pacing guides.
Reviews and develops materials to aid in instruction.
Develops district common assessments, manages administration of common assessments, analyzes common assessment data, and develop an action plan to address areas of concern based on common assessment results.
Stays abreast of current curricular and methodology changes in instruction through research and study.
Meets with department/grade level chairpersons or other designated staff members to ensure continuous communication, information distribution and feedback concerning the content area curriculum.
Maintains and supervises an inventory of materials and equipment and assists in reviewing and ordering additional items.
Ensures district-level interpretation of student data to guide instruction.
Develops teaching strategies to implement new curriculum.
Supports district and school goals based on content area.
Attends state-level and local content meetings; serves as a liaison between state and district.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or grade level Director.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Grade Level Assistant Director in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.
