  •   Job Summary:
    The physical education teacher is responsible for developing and implementing the District’s physical education curriculum that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among students. The teacher will encourage students to participate in various physical activities to the best of their abilities and educate them on the importance of health and fitness.

    Qualifications:
    • Current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License with endorsements in physical education and health education;
    • Ability to collaborate with fellow physical education teachers to plan for instruction;
    • Ability to assess the learning of students and modify or enhance instruction as needed;
    • Ability to analyze various forms of data and use the information to make instructional decisions;
    • Individual must be able to incorporate technology as a means of enhancing their instruction;
    • Able to work with a diverse student population and establish open and regular communication with parents and guardians; and  
    • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Develops and implements engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and promote physical fitness.
    • Prepares lesson plans that incorporate best practice instructional strategies in teaching physical fitness, health education, individual, and team sports.
    • Uses a variety of instructional resources and materials in planning engaging and differentiated activities that are structured to advance students’ knowledge of health and physical fitness.
    • Designs a variety of student assessments that are aligned to the learning outcomes, using both formative and summative assessments to:
      • Monitor student progress toward the learning outcomes;
      • Evaluate each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports; and
      • Adapt instruction for the whole class, individuals, or small groups of students.
    • Promotes positive and supportive relationships with students.
    • Maximizes the use of instructional time by:
    • Establishing efficient classroom routines and procedures;
    • Guiding instructional groups; and
    • Managing classroom transitions.
    • Enhances the learning environment by:
      • Arranging the classroom to support instruction and student activities; and
      • Ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all students during physical activities.
    • Completes regular safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
    • Actively assesses student understanding during instruction, providing constructive feedback designed to inform students of their progress and how they can improve their skills.
    • Reflects on instructional practices in order to improve teaching and student learning.
    • Communicates frequently with families providing information about:
      • The instruction and learning that is taking place in the classroom;
      • The academic and social emotional progress of individual students; and
      • How families can participate in their students’ learning.

           Salary and Benefits:
    • Starting salary of $49,029; (Please click the link to view the current (salary schedule);
    • Salary is commensurate with education and experience;
    • Qualified candidates may be granted up to twenty years of verified full-time teaching experience for credit on the salary schedule;

    Working Conditions:
    • 180 days per year – August through May/June.
    • Work Hours: 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
