DAY CARE PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Grade:                        14                                                                    FLSA Status: EXEMPT

Nature of Position:
The Director is responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the day care program. Directors are responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, setting an example for children, parents and co-workers by reflecting the church’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Reports to: Pastor and/or Principal

Responsibilities & Job Duties:
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Work in a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents or co-workers.
• Initiate and maintain positive relationships with school staff including principal, secretaries, custodial staff and teachers of key importance to the day care program.
• Keep a consistent headcount on all children present at site; communicate changes with all other staff
• Assist in maintaining clean-up schedules; including janitorial duties necessary to maintain the cleanliness of the school facility
• Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, absences and emergency information on each child
• Comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff
• Maintain all supplies, equipment and materials; inform the Principal when new/additional supplies are needed
• Ensure that all staff and children are respectful of school property; ensure all school rules are followed
RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN INTERACTING WITH CHILDREN:
• Consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect
• Consistently demonstrate positive discipline; teach and redirect rather than scolding or reprimanding them; firmly and consistently enforce the rules; ensure that discipline is appropriate

RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN INTERACTING WITH PARENTS:

• Communicate on a daily basis regarding the behavior of their children positive and negative (make sure to have parents review and sign corrective behavior reports)
• Express appreciation for their interest in their child(s) participation in the program
STAFF MANAGEMENT:
The director of the day care program is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and training of all staff. The director is the immediate supervisor of the staff. Program directors also perform performance evaluations and develop professional development plans for the staff to ensure the program maintains a high level of quality.
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT:
Directors manage the operations of the day care program, from ensuring that the staff has the tools and equipment they need to do their jobs, to monitoring the environment for health and safety hazards. In some cases, the director may also be involved with the financial management of the organization, in terms of budgeting, purchasing, and accounts payable.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Meet deadlines in the planning and implementation of the monthly or weekly calendars for programs which includes the creation and daily adherence of engaging, enriching programming
• Create formal staff meeting agendas as needed to address staff issues
• Effectively direct, supervise and evaluate job performance of all aides in your program
• Responsibly supervise all aides and ensure all are adhering to the appropriate program policies and procedures
• Be a support for aides; impartial and fair; create a team environment and encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents or co-workers.
• Communicate clearly staff expectations and follow up to ensure compliance
• Communicate with the Principal to discuss general progress of the program; immediately regarding incident/behavior reports on children or with staff concerns; relay pertinent information in a timely manner to all aides at your program
• Assist Principal by witnessing and documenting personnel matters; assist with assigned administrative tasks including documentation of procedures and policies.
• Create a “checks and balances” to ensure that clean-up is done EVERYDAY, without exception and that the responsibilities are distributed equally among all staff (including directors)
• Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, absences and emergency information on each child; maintain all other records regarding schedule changes, behavior and incident reports
• Effectively implement emergency procedures appropriate to the site and in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Preferred (Other acceptable fields include recreation, social work, program administration, psychology and sociology)
• 2-4 years of experience and/ or Associate Degree, in early childhood education and/or development required.
• Verifiable experience working with children of varied ages required.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Must have the ability to demonstrate and/or show competency in the following areas:
• Planning and implementing age appropriate, enriching activities.
• Supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants.

Nature of Position: Assisting teachers from grades Pre-K through K throughout the day by supporting classroom activies and providing the teacher assistance with administrative tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities: The duties of a preschool teacher's assistant includes interacting with children, preparing snacks, teaching children about numbers, colors and shapes, helping them get dressed and changing their diapers when needed.

Supervision
Preschool aides ensure the safety of all children under their care. This means supervising children in the classroom, on the playground or in public on school outings. Supervision includes knowing where all children are and insuring that they are safe, and stopping any unsafe activity, which is of particular importance with preschool-age children. Aides may also be called upon to help children if they are injured, and to take appropriate actions to protect the students in the event of an emergency.
 
Personal Care
A preschool teacher's aide may help children with any personal care needs. These may include using the bathroom, hand-washing, feeding or assisting in serving meals, and changing clothes. When children need help with such tasks, teachers and aides should allow the preschool child to do as much as possible independently, and teach her the skills. For younger preschool children, teacher's aides may change diapers or assist in potty training, accompanying children to the bathroom.

A Day Care Aide is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing daily activities, supervising and monitoring children to ensure their safety during both indoor and outdoor activities, and maintaining a clean and healthy environment by adhering to safety and sanitation guidelines. They support routine activities such as eating, napping, and personal hygiene, while also observing and reporting on children's behavior and development to the lead teacher or supervisor. Engaging with children through reading, playing, and encouraging creativity and learning is a key part of their role.

Nature of Position:
Many working parents choose to send their kids to a day care program headed by a team of care providers. As the job title implies, their first job is to take care of kids, which can include a number of different activities'.


Playtime
One of the main duties for day care aides is planning and supervising activities for kids. This can mean fun play such as arts and crafts, or activities that focus on skills in sports, music or dance. Children in day care spend a lot of time outside the home and away from parents, so it's important that during these activities aides keep a close eye on the kids, watching out for any behavioral or emotional issues they may need to discuss with parents.


Meals & Snacks

Some after-care settings are located in schools, and some after-care attendants double as tutors or educational helpers. They may coordinate with teachers to provide additional support for kids outside the classroom, helping with reading, math, or other subjects. In other settings, after-school attendants may simply ensure that kids get their homework done.

Safety
As the responsible adults in the room, after-school attendants need to be able to respond to basic emergencies and to look out for children's welfare while in their care. Care attendants are often trained in CPR and basic first aid, which may be required upon hiring or for licensing. Care providers need to be apprised of state laws on child safety procedures and creating a safe environment for children. If kids need to take medications, the care providers also need to know the protocols involved and know how to respond to a health emergency.

Logistics
Taking care of children's needs is an after-care attendant's first duty -- but she often has other logistical aspects to her job. Attendants may be responsible for setting up and breaking down the care space, especially when the after-care program takes place in a school gym, cafeteria, or other space used for different purposes during the day. They may also be responsible for writing daily, weekly, or monthly reports of children's behaviors and habits, and communicating that information to parents and educators. Some attendants also keep track of payments and help schedule the right amount of staff for the number of kids attending the program.

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be willing to obtain state and federal background checks and take required trainings for clearances.
• Must be willing to respect the Catholic Church's teachings on morality.

Nature of Position: The Cafeteria Worker prepares, cook and provides nutritious and appealing meals to students, teachers and other school personnel and visitors.

Reports to: Cafeteria Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
• Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures;
• Prepares food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures;
• Plans food production for the following days by preparing the designated food items ahead of time;
• Plans and implements an acceptable placement of steam-table pans on the cafeteria line prior to serving time;
• Transfers supplies and equipment between storage, work, serving, and cleaning areas in an appropriate manner;
• Stores food in designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and food spoilage guidelines;
• Stores food in refrigerators after covering, labeling, and dating; properly discards outdated food items;
• Courteously serves food with accuracy and speed while adhering to portion control, safety and appearance standards;
• Maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition;
• Sweeps and mops floors;
• Washes tables, walls, and equipment as directed;
• Washes pots and pans according to established procedures;
• Scrapes food from dirty dishes and washes them in dishwasher following established procedures;
• Inspects cleaned dishes for cleanliness, chips, cracks, etc., and stores in the appropriate location;
• Accepts payment for food, using cash register or other means as directed by cafeteria manager;
• Follows trash separation and proper disposal procedures;
• Reports needed supplies and equipment malfunction to cafeteria manager;
• Follows established sanitary techniques while preparing and serving food and while handling clean utensils;
• Attends in-service training sessions to develop and improve knowledge and skills;
• Performs job activities in a timely efficient manner and displays a willingness to work beyond the end of the contract work time as the infrequent need arises;
• Recommends changes and improvements regarding his/her job; accepts changes readily;
• Adheres to uniform and personal hygiene requirements;
• Prepares and serves banquet and special function meals as required;
• Complies with and supports school and diocesan regulations and policies;
• Maintains proper boundaries with students at all times, assuring respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-student relationship and the essential duty to serve as a role model;
• Provides a good role model in appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior for the students served;
• Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities;
• Performs related duties as assigned by the Manager in accordance with school/diocesan policies and practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to get along well with others. Requires knowledge of all Serv-Safe regulations and of health safety regulations in the service of food. The person in this position needs to be able to seek new recipes and food selections that comply with Nutrition guidelines of the state and Federal Government

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school preferred. Experience and proficiency in quantity food service functions are preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Duties are typically performed in areas related to the cafeteria and kitchen. Work is typically performed walking or standing. Physical stamina is required to tolerate continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, grasping, kneeling, and lifting of objects weighing up to approximately 45 pounds is required. The ability to withstand temperature variances common to food service facilities is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Food service workers are in daily contact with teachers, students, administration, the general public and other work related personnel. The ability to coordinate and prioritize work activity, handle complaints, express a service-oriented attitude, communicate effectively and work with limited supervision.
