    TYPE OF POSITION: K-3 Elementary Special Education Teacher
     

     

     

    Delano Public Schools is looking for a flexible and student-centered special education teacher to serve students in grades kindergarten through 3rd grade.  The ideal candidate for this position would be highly committed to serving students and families in Delano. The District is dedicated to providing a supportive working environment to develop and maintain exceptional special education teachers to serve our great community.

    POSITION DETAILS:

     

    Location: Delano Elementary School

     

    Hours: 1.0 FTE. 8 hours/day (7:30 to 3:30), 181 contract days per school year

     

    Anticipated Start Date: ASAP
    Salary and Benefits: Please consult the Master Agreement

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

     
    • Any K-12 special education certification or ability to obtain is required to fulfill this position.
     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

     
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide effective teaching strategies while adhering to the district philosophy and vision.
    • Provide explicit instruction in the areas of math, reading, writing, social / emotional and behavioral skills.
    • Create a classroom environment that responds to the needs of individual learners.
    • Ability to create functional spaces for students that are welcoming yet highly structured and fit the needs of the student/s you are serving.
    • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and clearly communicate expectations.
    • Utilize proactive behavior management techniques.
    • Reinforce positive behaviors, utilize de-escalation techniques, and redirect inappropriate behaviors.
    • Uses flexible thinking and adapt to student needs.
    • Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff including creating and assigning activities, instructional oversight and providing general guidance.
    • Communicate with parents in a timely manner. Maintain positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and community.
    • Work collaboratively with parents and other staff members to reinforce the educational program and advocate for each student.
    • Thorough knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations.
    • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication.
    • Ability to adhere to due process timelines and complete individualized education plan and evaluation paperwork to guide educational programming
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • May require exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, standing, speaking, hearing, sitting, walking, lifting and repetitive motions.
    • Occasionally requires exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, stopping, kneeling, running, crawling and crouching
