District NBCT PROJECT A: Portrait Action Research: Be on a team of NBCTs that creates and implements a short-, medium- and long-term research agenda focused on studying and reporting out to the community about the Portrait as it relates to the achievement of universal student success (planning SY25 and SY26 implementation)

Project specific expectations

Members of this group will be charged with establishing a research agenda for D97 guided by the District's priorities as reflected in the Portrait of an Eighth Grade Graduate. This agenda will list and prioritize areas of inquiry related to the Portrait and is intended to eventually function as a tool to focus the district's research projects and partnerships.

Deliverables

Stakeholder Engagement: Gather and organize insights, input, and wonderings from students, parents, and educational leaders as appropriate. Develop List of Research Questions: Formulate specific research questions to be included in the research agenda and identify priority questions Develop Areas of Inquiry: Organize research questions into specific areas of inquiry Identify Research Aims or Objective: For each specified area of inquiry, specify overall aim or objective related to D97 interests and the Portrait of a Graduate. This should also acknowledge what is already known from the research base and/or from internal data collection and analysis.

These will be information modules by grade bands which include a creative student introduction that defines the dimension and its importance as well as the unpacking of standards in an accessible and engaging way (plan & implement in SY25)

Project specific expectations

This project will promote storytelling and contests that highlight the experiences and achievements of students, families, and educators, all through the lens of the Portrait of an Eighth Grade Graduate and the district’s equity policy. This work should be supported/informed by the results of the SY25 communications audit. Project Goals - Alignment with Portrait of an 8th Grade Graduate: Ensure that storytelling reflects the eight core dimensions outlined in the Portrait (e.g., Innovative Dreamer, Powered by Literacy, Change Agent) - Alignment with Equity Policy: Project must ensure representation of all student/staff demographics and experiences. Stories should not only reflect the diversity of the community but actively work to include marginalized voices. - Student and Family Engagement Strategies: Develop and implement strategies to engage a wide range of students and families in storytelling and contests. This should include multiple avenues for participation (e.g., written word, multimedia, art) and take into account accessibility. - Staff Engagement Strategies: Similiar to students and families, strategies should be developed to share the work being done by D97 staff in and out of the classroom (connected to Portrait standards). Stories should reflect how D97 staff model values outlined in our Portrait (ex: "We Are Oak Park D97"). - Monitor Progress: Create plan to monitor impact/success of engagement and storytelling efforts. Be prepared to adjust strategies as needed, using feedback and data, to ensure greater participation and reach to the D97 community.

Deliverables

- Design framework for Portrait storytelling and contests, ensuring alignment with Portrait dimensions, district goals and policies. - Serve as Portrait storytelling ambassadors within their buildings and across D97. - Support efforts to roll out content, including developing guidelines and promotional materials. - Ensure that students, families and staff are aware of opportunities and eager to participate. - Collect feedback and data to make adjustments and achieve optimal engagement.

Students who participate in the Oak Park Student Advisory will provide documented input into the implementation of the Portrait of an Oak Park Eighth Grade Graduate. Students who participate will have a voice, choice, and agency in critical district and school decisions. Students who participate will connect their knowledge and learning to real-life situations in the district. Students who participate will demonstrate applying skills and learning in practical contexts to advise staff and administrators in making decisions for the district. Students who participate will enhanced motivation and advocacy, empowering them to pursue their goals.

NBCT Leads will aligne work with the portrait benchmarks and outcomes. Using this space as an informational hub connecting the portrait concepts, student curriculum aligned dimensiions and parent awareness/partnership NBCT Leads will propose draft Parent Informational Hand-outs to use in meeting spaces NBCT Leads will Parent Toolkit - aligned with current parent materials on the portrait website

Feedback surveys - to be given at conclusion of workshop to inform future workshop spaces. Opportunities for spaces to be used as focus groups to have informed feedback

• District 97 is seeking NBCT or equivalent staff to virtually tutor a  fourth-grade student on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:00pm - 4:30pm
• The tutoring would begin on Wednesday, January 8, 2025  and continue on any Wednesday and Thursday that school is in session through Thursday, May 29, 2025.
• The focus of the tutoring centers on engaging the student in the fourth-grade reading and writing standards on one day and fourth-grade mathematics standards on the second day. 
• The district is  looking for a staff member who is excited about this opportunity to connect with an individual student and engage them in learning in this unique way
