    Job Summary:
    Operating under the general direction of the assigned leadership for Curriculum and Professional Learning, this position functions as a District representative working to advocate for and support students, their Teachers, programs and goals.  Working to increase the quality and effectiveness of the D51 curriculum and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) the Instructional Coach equip educators with the competencies that are required for implementing effective instructional practices within the Teaching and Learning Framework.  Instructional Coaches help champion the District-wide vision for a commitment to high expectations and for the success of all students.  In addition, and as assigned, this position may also oversee a variety of applicable operational duties including developing curriculum and supporting instructional materials, assisting with teacher and needs, collaborating with site leaders on teacher supports, and managing professional learning objectives.


    Instructional Supports & Deliveries:
    The Instructional Coach operates from a solution oriented stance to ensure the success of teachers at the individual educator and building levels.  As a change/catalyst leader in our District this role works to support system alignments as teachers apply evolving curriculum and development plans.  This position requires an understanding of the philosophy of standards-based education, and the Teaching & Learning Framework including the processes of curriculum implementation and its effectiveness in the school.  In addition, the employee is a resource providing a high level of knowledge regarding student learning and related educational trends, programs and opportunities.  Primary goals include increasing the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction that is aligned to the Teaching and Learning Framework providing aligned curriculum instruction and meeting the needs of all students.  The role of the Instructional Coach encompasses four primary areas of focus:


    Instructional Specialist:
    • Supporting teachers and site leaders in planning and implementing classroom and building systems that ensure ALL students advance toward mastery of the D51 Standards and receive effective literacy and mathematics instruction to include;
    • Conducting coaching cycles visiting teacher’s classrooms to coach, model, co-plan, co-educate, or observe.  Instructional Coach conducts pre and post visit conference with teachers to facilitate their reflection and professional engagement.  Tools include utilizing video and technology to support teachers in their reflections;
    • Coaching teachers on methodologies and best practices using the Teaching and Learning Framework to support personalized learning centered environments that supports the rigor of established and evolving Standards;
    • Supporting instructional programs that recognize the contributions of diverse groups and foster success for all students regardless of gender, sex, and/or disabilities;
    • Working as a change leader in support of district initiatives, teaching innovation, and the pursuit of positive student outcomes,

    Curriculum Supporter and Resource Provider:
    • Supporting resources that assist teachers in attaining student mastery of Elementary content-specific standards and Social Emotional Learning goals;
    • Developing and maintaining systems of support for building level Learning Communities unpacking curriculum, required standards, and a plan for delivery;
    • Bridging the role of the D51 Curriculum Specialist with school sites and Learning Communities to ensure implementation of the adopted curriculum through the lens of Backwards Planning practices;
    • Increasing teachers understanding and content knowledge in Social Emotional Learning to support the disposition of learners; 
    • Facilitating collaborative work with other teachers and support staff sharing learned strategies for working with students;
    • Responding to teacher, school, and occasionally parent questions including informal requests regarding policies, procedures, and programming for student learners;
    • Supporting student assessments with results used as a catalyst to develop student centered instruction delivery improvements;
    • Coordinating data collection and analysis to monitor programming and student academic success during and after receiving instruction.
      • Note: Middle School Coaches work in partnership with content area Teachers Math, Science, Social Studies, and/or ELA

    Life-Long Learner:
    • Modeling continuous learning Instructional Coaches engage in Professional Learning continuously refining their personal practices and knowledge base;
    • Attending and contributing to D51 instructional Coach Academy a minimum of twice monthly;
    • Engaging in coaching cycles with Professional Learning leadership regarding their coaching practice and modeling self-reflections through video and other methods; 
    • Utilizing video to enhance their personal reflection 
    • Bringing forward new knowledge and techniques to the learning system; modeling applications at building sites and within the coaching cadre.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in education plus additional coursework which certifies endorsement or licensure or is highly qualified (24 semester hours in content area)*
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in Classroom Teacher role;
    • Preference for demonstrated professional learning facilitation experience in Performanced/Competency-Based system;
    • Valid Colorado Teacher’s license with applicable endorsement*;
    • Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by their Supervisor.

    Working Conditions:
    199 days/year

    Salary & Benefits:
    Teacher Base Pay Salary Schedule Range:
    $50,015 - $104,432 based on one (1) FTE at one hundred eighty eight (188) days.

    Hiring Range for External Candidates:
    $50,015 - $85,857 
    *Teachers are initially placed according to experience. Teachers new to the District may be granted up to 15 years of experience, provided the experience occurred within the last 20 years in accordance with the MVEA Agreement.
