JOB SUMMARY:            Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school- based speech-language pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the area of language, speech, voice, 
 
                                       and fluency.  These services are designed to help children meet their educational needs.    
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Salary, benefits, and work year as established in the Teachers’ Contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

The specific duties and responsibilities of Speech Language Pathologist include, but are not limited to the following:
 
• Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech/language improvement through an Individual Education Plan.

• Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and/or language disabled children.

• Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.

• Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency and language impairments.

• Provides screening, as needed, to identify speech and language impaired children at regular intervals and at specified levels including participating in the District preschool screening process as needed.

• Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities.

• Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.

• Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual students receiving therapy for medicaid billing and logs identifying monthly service delivery.

• Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.

• Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.

• Provides case management for students identified as only having a Speech Language Impairment

• Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment, materials, and supplies.

JOB SUMMARY:            To work closely with two exceptional students on a regular basis in an effort to provide the students with an environment in which the students can take full advantage of the instructional program.
 
REPORTS TO:               Classroom Teacher, Principal, and other administrators.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Salary based on Chicago Heights School District 170 and American Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 604, Chicago Heights Council contractual agreement.
 
PENSION SYSTEM:                IMRF
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1.    Assists the assigned students with self-help and self-care skills such as moving from room to room, using the lavatory, and toileting assistance, etc.
 
2.    Performs simple errands and tasks for the students such as sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays, etc.
 
3.    Accompanies the students to the office or to other areas of the building if appropriate.
 
4.    Establishes a positive relationships with the students encouraging independent functioning without fostering emotional involvement.  
 
5.    Serves as a resource persona to the students personnel evaluation team conferring about students to whom assigned.
 
6.    Participates in professional development as it relates to his/her job/students assignment.
 
7.    Facilitates the integration of the special education students into the regular classroom.
 
8.    Establishes cooperative relationships with other staff members.
 
9.    Helps the students maintain limits which define or structure a situation in a positive manner.
 
10.    Cooperates with the teacher to create positive solutions to problems.
 
11.    Helps the child to develop appropriate personal and interpersonal skills.
 
12.    Maintains flexible attitude and approach towards classroom situations.
 
13.     Shows a genuine concern and respect for the students(s).
 
14.    Helps to supervise the arrival and dismissal of students to and from school, including walkers and those provided with bus transportation.
 
15.    If specified in the students’ IEP/504, the facilitator may be requested to ride the bus both to and from school.
 
16.    Sanitize materials/equipment in accordance with program and board policy.
 
17.    When the assigned students are not in need of assistance or absent, the facilitator should circulate and assist other students in the classroom, as needed.
18.    Carries out other appropriate activities as assigned by the teacher.

JOB SUMMARY: To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the program and available resource materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Administrates, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
2. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
3. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interest, and abilities.
4. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
5. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
6. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
7. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
8. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assembly, play periods, and field trips.
9. Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date.
10. Assists with such large groups activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling.
11. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
12. Assists students in the library or media center.
13. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
14. Checks and records student attendance.
15. Collects and records collection of money.
16. Helps students with their clothing.
17. Helps with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
18. Assists with wash-up and toilet routines.
19. Alerts the regular teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
20. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
21. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
22. Participates in inservice training programs as assigned.
23. Carries out other appropriate activities as assigned by the teacher and/or administrator.
