TITLE: NURSE
Job Focus: To assist the Administration with the management of the school district's health service.
Line of Supervision: Responsible to and evaluated by the Director of Special Education and building Principals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs vision and hearing screenings as directed by the Director of Special Education.
2. Influences the school environments in the areas of safety and health.
3. Supervises and coordinates the services and performance of the health clerk.
4. Attends the safety issues regarding children inside and outside of the school environment.
5. Designs and plans the communication strategies required to adhere to and maintain state/local regulations and the strategies to keep staff informed of unique health, medical and nutritional needs of the students.
6. Plans and facilitates required health in-services such as CPR, First Aid and medical protocols.
7. Facilitates the process for use of Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party billing for students with IEPs.
8. Uses medical diagnostic information, to contribute to the planning of appropriate student therapeutic plans and approaches.
9. Uses available and appropriate human and material sources as a bridge to the instructional program, the home and other services.
10. Plans and manages effective monitoring, assessment, and reporting schedules.
11. Writes professional reports and records and turns written work in on time.
12. Plans and maintains, in collaboration with the educational team, the prevention and interventions of inappropriate behaviors, while maintaining the dignity of the student.
13. Is enthusiastic and values the student and the content of his/her individual plan.
14. Interacts effectively with students, family members, educational team members, and professionals outside the organization.
15. Is involved in continuing professional growth.
16. Is knowledgeable about the impact of the disability and/or accompanying drugs on the students.
17. Attends and participates in school events and meetings during specified work hours.
18. Exhibits professionalism and is a role mode.
19. Guards confidentiality of all information received. Breach of this trust shall be grounds for dismissal.
20. Performs such other direct nursing and health service duties as requested by the district administrators.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. A valid Illinois Nursing License.
2. Commitment to the transdisciplinary team process.
3. Have the experience and ability to relate to and work with all students including those who may present a variety of disabilities.
4. Have experience in a public-school setting/classroom-based setting.
5. Have experience with families and family education.
6. Participation in continuous professional growth (e.g., workshops, in-services, and available course work.)
7. Is certified by the State of Illinois as a Vision and Hearing Technician.
8. IDFPR License (Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CCSD168 District and the SVEA Union.
