Purpose:  The primary purpose of this position is to instruct in Spanish and supervise a diverse group of children by establishing a positive, respectful learning environment, providing ample and varied learning opportunities and promoting high standards of performance for all students regardless of their background and developmental levels.

Salary: $52,980. - $99,204. with benefits 
Retirement Contribution: Corvallis School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee’s salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045). • Model and teach respect with an awareness of diversity.

• Develop and carry out clear, organized, sequential lessons and learning activities suitable for students’ developmental levels and aligned with instructional objectives.
• Vary and pace classroom strategies to accommodate different learning styles, actively involve students and maximize student engagement in meaningful learning.
• Diagnose the instructional needs of all students and devise appropriate learning activities for each student.
• Use current body of knowledge in cultural diversity issues in teaching and curriculum development to design and adapt individual/group academic and behavior/social programs in all school settings.
• Implement district and state curriculum standards and ensure that instructional activities are clearly related to district/state curriculum standards.
• Assure that every student has ample opportunity to demonstrate proficiency with district and state standards.
• Use a variety of approaches to assess, record and provide feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments.
• Participate in development and implementation of individual student plans (e.g., IEP, 504).
• Assume responsibility for adapting and modifying classroom instruction for students identified as needing specialized instruction.
• Work as part of the school team to fully implement Response to Intervention (RTI).
• Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.
• Work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social and academic needs of students.
• Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all students and with parents/guardians concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
• Assist school staff and administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, reinforce individual school’s plan for positive behavior support, develop reasonable rules for classroom behavior and utilize effective, proactive behavior management skills in all school settings.
• Assume responsibility for assigned duties, e.g., playground, lunchroom duty.
• Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
• Train and act as lead worker for Educational Assistants.
• Reflect upon own teaching performance and accept and utilize supervisory suggestions and feedback.
• Take primary responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and district inservice meetings.
• Participate in activities that are related to school functions and/or the education process that occur outside the regular workday, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
• Maintain accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law and district policy and administrative regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Valid Oregon teacher’s license with appropriate endorsement and grade level authorization. Must be highly qualified or able to become highly qualified in area assigned according to NCLB laws.

• Familiarity with a variety of age appropriate instructional, assessment and behavior management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supports building/district behavior management program and related school policies/procedures by working with other staff members, students, and parents, in a manner consistent with administrative direction.
• Provides consultation and/or technical assistance to staff regarding behavior intervention strategies.
• Responds to calls for assistance when behavior problems develop and works with students to promote positive behavior.
• Instructs students in small groups and one-on-one settings, teaching behavioral strategy during instructional activity as necessary to achieve goals and objectives.
• Helps students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promoting safety of the students by helping them develop self-confidence.
• Provides education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions such as responding to discipline problems or acting as a role model.
• Responds to the community, developing contacts and resources available to students.
• Attends in-service and workshop training related to area of assignment; applying training to instructional responsibilities.
• Develops and tracks the use of behavior support materials for students.
• Uses independent judgment in response to incidents involving, violation of school rules, conflict among students or in relation to the school’s behavior program between students and staff in a way that all parties will feel respected, heard, and able to work together for resolution.
• Under the direction of an administrator, imposes student discipline following the guidelines of the district/building behavior management plan and attendance policy.
• Under the direction of an administrator, communicates with staff, students, and parents about student behavior and attendance issues in a manner consistent with district policies and procedures.
• Arranges and facilitates meetings among parents, staff, and students, when appropriate, to clarify behavior expectations, as well as identify and resolve issues.
• In collaboration with a school team develops individual behavior/attendance plans to encourage students to handle conflicts by teaching alternative resolution methods.
• Serves as lead worker to other classified staff, as assigned, in a manner that promotes team development and effective work.
• Works collaboratively with administrators and all staff members to enforce positive behavior among students.
• Observes, interprets and records data involving behavior data and interprets data for behavior team meetings.
• Member of the school behavior support team i.e. PBIS.
• Maintains, stores, and retrieves information in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner using standard office systems, equipment and software.
• Supervises students outside the classroom, as assigned, to support the district/building’s
  discipline and instructional program.
• Provides other related services as assigned.

• Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with individuals and groups of all ages using conflict resolution skills in response to crisis situations.
• Ability to communicate with credibility and confidence, both orally and in writing, consistent with the level of responsibility for this position.
• Ability to formulate and implement ideas for development of individual behavior management and attendance plans.
• Ability to understand and apply discipline procedures, including suspension and expulsion, of students with disabilities.
• Working knowledge of instructional and behavioral management and modification theory and techniques for students.
• Ability to collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize, and utilize information and records efficiently in support of school behavior management and attendance programs.
• Ability to independently plan, organize, and carry out work assignments, and to plan and direct the work of assigned staff or students.
• Ability to obtain specialized training and/or certification as required.
• Ability to travel among district facilities as needed; if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.
