  •   PURPOSE:  The purpose of this position is to provide high quality mental health care to CSD students and families in an effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards. This purpose is fulfilled through direct screening, diagnosis and case formulation /implementation of treatment plan for individuals, family and group psychotherapy within  school based therapeutic spaces.

    Calendar: 191  Work Days
    Salary: $50,942 to $95,387 with benefits
    Retirement Contribution: Corvallis School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee’s salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.

    • 2 positions are available, one is 0.5 FTE and one is 1.0 FTE. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045).  The following are examples of principle duties; however, any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.
     
    Clinical Screening, Assessment & Treatment
    • Assess appropriateness of referral based on mental health program screening criteria. 
    • Assess the mental health challenges of the client, and complete a direct screening, diagnosis and case formulation/implementation of treatment plan for individual, family and group psychotherapy.
    • Work with individuals and groups of students to improve skills in decision-making and interpersonal relations with the goal of social/emotional balance and educational progress.
    • Manage a  caseload of clinical work. There is a balance of clinical intensity and flexibility of caseload based on client need (rather than solely “productivity based” model).
    • Consult with students and families, and staff in identifying and solving problems that interfere with school progress.
    • MH therapists will prioritize client’s self determination of treatment (students/families) while integrating the client supports into systems in the schools..
     
    Documentation and Administrative Management
    • Complete required clinical documentation into CSD medical record system or to maintain a medical/ethical/legal client record (including assessments, treatment plans, recommendation letters and service notes).
    • Maintain timely, complete and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
    • Provide timely assessments, treatment planning and measurable goal setting;  including annual reviews for transitions/termination and or discharge.
    • Provide case management through appropriate triaging and referrals in coordination with clients and families. Obtaining a Release of Information when consulting with other providers and agencies.
    • Assist in transition between elementary and middle school or middle school and high school.
     
    Population Based Health Management
    • MH therapists will participate in school based teams (ie. 504, IEP,  SST, CARE team, WRAP)  as an advocate for their client’s needs.
    • MH therapist will work with school counselors, dean of students, and administrators as part of a behavioral health responder.
    • Work as part of the school team to fully implement Response to Intervention (RTI). This could include school improvement planning, parent engagement, school committees, etc. Therapists and supervisor will collaboratively  prioritize client’s needs while balancing macro building support.
     
    Mental Health Response 
    • As part of an integrated behavioral mental health team, the MH therapist will support direction and guidance to administrators and staff through their specific lens of expertise. 
    • Work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social, emotional and academic needs of students.
    • Therapist will be a catalyst to challenge stigmas and discrimination and work in collaboration with the school admin team to promote an inclusive environment. And, recognizing the unique challenges faced by individuals with diverse backgrounds.
    • Serve as liaison between school and community resources that benefit students, families
     and the school community.
    Other:
    • Create and model a respectful learning environment.
    • Effectively work with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
    • Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.
    • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all students and with parents/guardians concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
    • Assist school staff and administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, reinforce individual schools’ plans for positive behavior support, and utilize effective, proactive behavior management skills in all school settings.
    • Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
    • Reflect upon your own performance and accept and utilize supervisory suggestions and feedback.
    • Take primary responsibility for pursuing and evaluating your own professional growth.
    • Attend and participate in mental health staff meetings and district inservice meetings.
    • Participate in activities that are related to school functions and/or the education process that occur outside the regular workday, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods. 
    • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
    • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.
    • Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
     
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    • Valid PsyD, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent Oregon professional licensure strongly preferred.
    • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling. 
    • Minimum two years of work experience in mental health. Of the two (2) years of progressively responsible mental health experience, at least one (1) year of work experience must provide case management and treatment to individuals with mental illness and/or addictions
    • Experience working with a variety of people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
    • Understanding of confidentiality, HIPPA and their application to client records.
    • Understanding of FERPA requirements and the unique records and information sharing process between clinical and educational entities.
    • Must have graduate course work in theory, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders.
    • Must demonstrate proficiency using DSM IV-TR, DSM V, and ICD-10.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills, especially written skills for assessment, formulation and service notation is required and clinical skills around communicating with families, educators and community members in a professional manner is needed. 
    • Experience with community behavioral health, systemic intervention, or public health with youth and families.
    • Must have experience working with persons who have mental health issues and those who are in emotional distress
    • Possess strong professional social and interpersonal skills.
    • Understanding of human growth and development patterns, learning theory and brain research.
    • Familiarity with a variety of age appropriate guidance, counseling and behavior management strategies that reflect current research on best practices
    • Ability to listen with empathy and understanding to others who have concerns to express
    • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.
    • Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
    • Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.
    • Ability to travel among district facilities and, if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.
    • Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.

    • Will be required to be trained in physical intervention with students who are in mental health crisis and may be required to engage in clinically indicated physical intervention.
