Description:
Let’s Play Attendants (mobile team) take recreational supplies and opportunities to a variety of events and locations in the City of Evanston throughout the summer. Work includes setting up and breaking down items in the Let’s Play Mobile Recreation Vehicle/Trailer. Let’s Play Attendants engage with participants and provide a safe a rewarding experience at special events throughout the summer. Staff must use all equipment safely and ensure participants are also using the items safely. This position works under the direction of the Conservation and Outdoors Division Manager or designee.
Job Summary:
Specific assignment will include some or all of the following:- Setting up and tearing down recreation items, such as lawn games, arts and crafts, and/or sports equipment. Leading game play with participants and ensuring the safe use of all Let’s Play items.
- Inspects assigned park and recreation sites and equipment regularly regarding condition, safety, and degree of use; recommends more complex maintenance and repair if needed.
- Drives a city vehicle to and from sites to transport supplies and materials. Trailer training may be required and would be provided on the job.
- Follows specific set up and breakdown location maps for all events.
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Completes and submits all required paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion. (i.e.; timesheets, injury reports, and daily work logs).
- Submits 311 requests for identified repairs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: - Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in recreation or sports, safe operation of vehicles and general public clean-up.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply instructions for the safe operation of equipment and available tools
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public and employees
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and locate addresses within the City of Evanston boundaries illustrated on a Map
Physical Requirements of Work: - Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such cold, high winds, rain, high temperatures, and humidity.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor able to lift minimum of 50 lbs. to kneel, bend, stand or sit for long periods of time, identify or distinguish colors.
- Ability to work in situations where the following are present: loud noise levels, vibrations, fumes, dust and dirt.
- Ability to climb a ladder.
Supervision:
Work is assigned through the Division Manager or designee. Assignments may vary from day to day. Assignments can be either verbal or written, with the employee determining proper procedure and work methods and is responsible for completing the work according to City work rules and safety regulations. Work is reviewed through ongoing observation, written and verbal communication, meetings and feedback from supervisors and other department employees. Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, Personnel Rules and OSHA. Work is evaluated at least once per season for the safe and skilled operation of equipment, quality of tasks, adherence to work rules, and performance in accordance with classification standard. Staff are responsible for site inspections, ongoing observations, and written and verbal communications.
Public Contact:
The employee has regular and frequent contact with division and department employees and other City employees as well as regular contact with community residents and representatives; and members of the public and representatives of other agencies, including elected officials.
Rate:
$17 per hour
Schedule:
This is a part-time, seasonal position. Staff are scheduled about 10-15 hours per week. Schedule includes weekends and may include holidays. Total hours for this position not to exceed 1000 hours in the calendar year.
