  •   Central Catholic High School is seeking a faithful, passionate, selfless, and resilient Guidance Counselor for the 2025-2026 school year.  Applicants must be enthusiastic about the mission of Central Catholic High School.  They should have the ability to assist and provide support to students in the areas of academic and college preparation, executive functioning skill development, personal and spiritual growth, decision-making skills, and social development.  Applicants must also be able to assist students in providing interventions and solution focused strategies for students and families in at-risk academic situations and short-term personal issues.  Applicants must also serve as liaison between home and school and provide parental education, as appropriate, regarding plan of study, college and career path, academic needs, and personal skill development.   The preferred candidate has an enthusiasm for working with youth, a strong understanding of college and career preparation, executive functioning skill development, as well as external college and career resources, and adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession with a Catholic worldview.

    Responsibilities
    • Provide academic, executive skills, short-term social consultation, and in-service training to school personnel.
    • Work with administration, faculty, Wellness counselor, and Student Services to provide support to students who are struggling with academic, executive skill, plan of study, and career path acquisition into the school setting.
    • Participate in weekly Student Support meetings and monthly Leadership Team meetings.
    • Responsible for participating in eligibility determination of Student Services and recommendation of appropriate accommodations and identification of students who require executive functioning and/or academic intervention based on identified learning disabilities.
    • Monitors the academic, college, and career progress of each assigned student by assisting in educational planning, test interpretations, school work, and course changes. 
    • Evaluate individual academic at-risk students and collaborates with school personnel, external referral sources, and families as necessary.
    • Works with the Enrollment Team to determine acceptance and course placement for all incoming students based on academic needs, supports, and concerns.
    • Driver of Tier 1 executive functioning skill education and development for the student body in planning and executing House Community lessons. 
    • Planning and executing outreach for transfer students regarding academic transition into a new school.  Meets with these students on an as needed basis.
    • Identifying students for scholarships or other award opportunities.
    • Oversees the data and metrics ensuring student academic credits are on track for graduation.
    • Implements and coordinates school-wide academic counseling services and activities, e.g., liaison work for programs such as family college and career education, offering opportunities and events for underclassmen and their families to begin to learn about the college process prior to their junior year, and serves as a liaison to external academic resources, i.e. high schools, colleges, and universities.
    • Coordinating and proctoring academic testing for students, i.e. High School Placement Test, Advanced Placement (AP) Test, Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT), and State-mandated assessments.
    • Coordinate and execute  “College and Career” fairs for the entire student body.
    • Managing, cultivating, and collaborating with college and career contacts.
    • Processing and submitting transcript requests, as well as submitting supplemental academic paperwork required for student admission to colleges.

    Required Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
    • Ability to work cooperatively as an interdisciplinary team member.
    • Ability to establish trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with college and career agencies, students, and families.
    • Ability to guide rising sophomores and juniors through academic course selections in preparation for college and career readiness.

    Preferred Skills and Abilities
    • Experience with college admissions.
    • Knowledge of PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP testing practices and protocols.
    • Knowledge of Common Application and other career tools available for the student body.

    Education and Experience
    • Type 73 Certificate required
    • Master Degree in Counseling preferred
    • Extensive and diversified background with years of related experience preferred
