High School Summer Session Teacher (Grades 9-12)
Position Summary
Working from home and reporting to the High School Summer Session Administrators, the High School Summer Session Teacher will “virtually” facilitate instructional programs using the CCA-approved high school curriculum. Through the use of the telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools, he/she will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each learner successfully completes his/her instructional program. The High School Summer Session Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
· Engage in planning for your summer course(s) prior to the start of the summer session as directed by your Summer Session Administrator
· Complete all grading, create progress reports, and conduct student/parent conferences in a timely manner (grading should be kept current on a weekly basis; providing meaningful feedback on assessments)
· Support the instructional program with asynchronous and synchronous approaches (including but not limited to synchronous, tutoring, and office hours through Zoom);
· Office hour requirements include:
· Zoom must be open for learners to drop in for help.
· Learners who are falling behind in lessons and/or have failing grades will be called and invited to daily open office hours.
· Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding (working directly with students and caretakers)
· Connect with caretakers, students and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update schedules, score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments and coach special projects
· Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program (Review all school year course work to determine content completed successfully and to prioritize the summer program course to focus on material that still needs to be learned)
· Support students and caretakers with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments, assessments, and projects
· Communicate regularly with caretakers, students, and curriculum specialists through use of computer and telephone (Return phone calls and webmails within 24 hours)
· By the end of each week, teachers will have had at least one (1) synchronous contact with 100% of their students or two (2) varied (time, date, method) asynchronous attempts.
· Phone contact/attempts are required on a weekly basis for any student with a failing grade and/or low attendance.
· Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts (Complete weekly Summer Program contact report)
· Consult with other teachers and staff learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students’ programs to increase student understanding (Respond to school survey or meetings for feedback on summer program pilots)
· Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
· Teacher must possess a PA Teaching Certification in the appropriate content area.
· Teacher must be “proficient” on current year evaluation. No overall “needs improvement.”
· Teacher must commit to 100% attendance with no scheduled vacations during the 5-week time period. (Emergency situations will be honored after discussion with administrator).
· It is expected that summer session tasks can be completed in approximately 20 hours per week (i.e. average of 4 hours per day), including 1 hour of synchronous instruction per day Credit Recovery Courses (M-Th) and Accelerated (M-F). Synchronous instruction and office hours will be offered in the morning, between the hours of 8a-12p.
o Credit Recovery
- Will be by invitation only based on grades as of May 15, 2022.
- Caretakers will not be able to select summer session (Credit Recovery) as in past years.
- Credit Recovery courses will be 4 posted lesson days (Mon – Thurs) with synchronous instruction (synchronous attendance is optional for students) and 1 posted assessment (Fri) and Open Office Hours (Mon-Fri).
o Accelerated
- Will be offered to learners based on interest.
- All learners who request an Accelerated course will be approved for the course.
- Accelerated courses will be 5 posted lesson days (Mon – Fri) with synchronous instruction (synchronous attendance is optional for students) and Open Office Hours (Mon-Fri).
