Career Ladder - High School Department Lead - Music

Job Summary:
The High School Department Lead is responsible for providing leadership and support to their respective academic department. This role includes overseeing curriculum communications with the Learning Department, assisting with coordinating teacher training, providing cyclical feedback surrounding school goals, and ensuring high-quality instructional practices. The Lead collaborates with school administration to align department goals with school-wide objectives and supports faculty in achieving student success. Additionally, the Department Lead facilitates department meetings, with guidance from their administrator, and promotes a positive and inclusive learning environment. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills are essential. Department leads will maintain a small class while leading their Departments.
1. 3 or more years' experience as a content teacher is required
2. Must be able to communicate effectively and in a timely manner
3. May be asked to represent the school at outreach, conferences, and/or school events
4. Address any general department questions that school leaders or CCA staff have or direct them to the proper department teacher.
5. Assist in creating agendas for and host twice-monthly department meetings
i. Followed by departmental PLC meetings
6. Welcome and help to onboard new teachers during the induction period
7. Work to assist to maintain equity of student numbers throughout each section throughout the year by initiating and organizing the student transfer process (BackPack Transfers)
8. Assist with mentor/mentee pairings for new staff by working with our Induction Team
9. Assistant with teacher replacements for leaves and maintain communication with admin and teachers during this period to ensure payment, time frame etc.
10. Work with departmental admin team to assign TOAs
11. Attend and participate in weekly departmental leadership meetings
12. Assist with teacher teaching placements each year via created and distributed survey, as well as master schedule input
13. Respond to teacher concerns and questions daily, escalating to admin as appropriate
14. Act as a liaison between the department, Administration, PLC’s, School Counseling, and the Learning Department in collaboration of meeting times, curriculum concerns, scheduling etc.
15. Assist in creation and maintain the Microsoft Team online hub for each school/department (Ex: High School English Department Team – encompasses 9-12).
16. Serve on the department’s interview panel
17. Select teacher pairings for student teachers when needed
18. Maintain various levels of daily communication for department support between teachers, chairs, and administrators
19. Other duties as assigned
