PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Canton Public Schools | Town of Canton

The Town of Canton, in collaboration with the Canton Board of Education seek?s ?applicants for the position of Payroll Specialist. The primary responsibility of the position is to perform payroll functions for the Board of Education, including biweekly payrolls, calculating time and wage, accurately posting and verifying payroll deductions including pension contributions, insurances, voluntary benefit deductions, 125 plans, garnishments and state and federal withholdings.  This function also includes assisting with preparation of annual work agreements, budget preparation and annual payroll database maintenance to reflect current salary structures and employee information. The Payroll Specialist regularly reconciles payroll accounts, prepares journal entries and addresses and resolves discrepancies.  Mandatory Federal and State quarterly reporting is also the responsibility of the Payroll Specialist.
 
The position is full time at 37.5 hours per week. Wage is competitive and based on experience.
 
Applicants should have an Associate’s Degree with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in payroll.  An additional four (4) years of related experience may be substituted for the Associate’s Degree. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is required for success in this position as well as knowledge of payroll software systems (e.g. MUNIS, Infinite visions (School ERP). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word is required. Public School payroll experience is preferred.
