Purpose:
To promote student success through the implementation of a comprehensive counseling program that addresses the needs of students in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Schedule students in appropriate courses.
2. Consult with students, parents and staff to assist students with academic/career planning.
3. Meet individually with every 9-12th grade student and develop a career plan.
4. Assist students with scholarship, college entrance, and financial aid applications.
5. Collects student grades from teachers and develops student grad reports.
6. Serve as the School to Work, Education for Employment, Tech-Prep and District Assessment Coordinator.
7. Schedule and coordinate Student Assessment Tests as well as the ACT, PSAT, SAT, ASVAB, etc.
8. Maintains student records and transcripts. Works with the officials from other schools when students transfer in or out of Cairo Jr/Sr High School.
9. Establishes and participates in career fairs and site visits for students in helping develop future plans.
10. Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules and directives.
11. Make him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services.
12. Advocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
13. Monitors each student’s academic program to ensure the student has the opportunity to meet all high school graduation requirements.
14. Facilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students, parents/guardians and staff.
15. Connect students, parents/guardians and staff with specialized referral agencies.
16. Understand, evaluate, and interpret academic performance data. Interpret information about students to the student, their parents/guardians, and staff.
17. Implement individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate.
18. Conduct career and educational planning activities.
19. Participate in in-service activities promoted by the district.
20. Provides input in the development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
21. Submit required reports promptly and accurately.
22. Perform other duties as assigned by Building Principal or Superintendent.

Requirements Education and Experience:
Masters Degree in School Counseling with Illinois Type 73 Certification
Meet all coursework and testing requirements, and meet all other requirements detailed in Illinois statute and rules.

Summary:
Under the supervision of the building principal, the School Counselor will help both special and general education students in grades K-6. The counselor will work with students, parents, and teachers to ensure that academic, social and developmental needs are met, and will meet with students individually and/or in groups and will also visit classrooms to present lessons dealing with social-emotional topics.


Duties

JOB SUMMARY:

Job Summary: This is a district wide position, serving students in Pre-K through 12th Grade. Provide speech services to students as directed by Individual Education Plans, under the direction of the school administration.

Job Description

1. Complete comprehensive and appropriate evaluations according to State Standards, District Guidelines, and ASHA Guidelines.
2. Provide a complete diagnostic summary report including a summary of evaluation information and educational relevance.
3. Complete IEP paperwork in a timely manner.
4. Evaluate students based upon screening results and referrals from teachers, parents and physicians.
5. When appropriate, make referrals for further evaluation.
6. Obtain and use diagnostic information
7. Administer appropriate assessments for each area of suspected speech/language impairment.
8. Demonstrate understanding and use of the principles of diagnostic evaluation and interpretation.
9. Maintain on-going assessment to verify progress toward established goals.
10. Maintain communication with the building faculty regarding the role of the SLP.
11. Maintain a physical environment conducive to learning.
