    Position Summary:

    To provide foundational understandings of concepts in computer science necessary for students to function in an ever-changing technological world, with an emphasis in Programming/Coding.

    Through this course, students will explore, apply and move toward mastery in skills and concepts related to Computational Thinking and Problem Solving; Data Information; Algorithms and Programs; Computers and Communications; and Community, Global and Ethical Impacts.  

    Students will learn to accomplish tasks and solve problems independently and collaboratively.  Students will learn to be successful in college and careers, whether in computer science or in other fields.  

    Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

     
    • Develop and administer computer science education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
    • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences 
    • Develop practical programming/coding skills for use in occupations
    • Encourage students to develop work and personal habits essential for success in business 
    • Prepare appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning
    • Instruct students in use, care, and safe operation of computer equipment
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs
    • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings
    • Conduct research and maintain professional relationships with members of the business community
    • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws
    • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
    • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
    • Coordinate with other professional staff members
    • Participate in faculty meetings and committees
    • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records
    • Adhere to all policies of the district
    • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
    • Knowledge of computer science education curriculum and concepts
    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
    • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
    • Ability to organize and coordinate work
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work

    Certification/License:
    • Must have appropriate Computer Science endorsement on teaching certificate - OR - be willing to meet all licensure requirements outlined by the Arkansas Department of Education
    • Successful completion of all background checks
