Head High School Girls Volleyball Coach Job Summary Under the direct supervision of the Activities/Athletic Director, this position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork and the game of volleyball. The Head Coach is responsible for organizing and leading the high school program, with the help of assistant coaches. The coach conducts practices, instructs student-athletes in game fundamentals, strategies and techniques, and coaches during competitions.
Qualifications - Complete a pre-employment background check
- Previous high school volleyball coaching experience preferred
- Have exceptional leadership and communication skills
- Obtain CHSAA Coaching certification
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
- Current Concussion Management Training & Certification
Compensation: Starting base pay $3,650 for the volleyball season
(24-25 payscale) Work Schedule: Based on the volleyball season and in coordination with the Athletic Director
Essential Job Duties - Follows and upholds the rules, policies and mission of BVHS and the Athletics Department.
- Follows and upholds all League and CHSAA procedures and guidelines.
- Leads, organizes and directs the Buena Vista High School Girls Volleyball program.
- Communicates with and provides support to the middle school coaches and program.
- Adhere to the department and districts financial policies in regards to purchase orders, collection and disbursement of money, expenses and receipts.
- Instructs and demonstrates skill sets, fundamentals and techniques necessary for individual and team development in the sport of volleyball.
- Schedule bus transportation for games with the athletics director and director of transportation.
- Travel to and from competitions with the student athletes on the team bus.
- Submits athletic rosters to the Athletic Department in a timely manner once teams are determined. Provide the department with any changes to rosters immediately.
- Determine and provide letter and award winners to the Athletic Department at the end of sport season. Organize an end of season team banquet.
- Checks and secures all team storage rooms.
- Secures building doors and locker rooms after practice and trips.
- Distributes and checks back in all equipment, supplies and uniforms issued to the students.
- Consults with the Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs and camps.
- Holds an informational parent meeting at the beginning of the season.
- Supervises athletes during practices, travel and competition.
- Directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises at practice.
- Provide opportunities for out of season open workouts to further skill development.
- Instructs student-athletes in the rules, regulations, equipment, fundamentals and techniques of the sport.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Supports multi-sport participation of student-athletes at BVHS.
- Must have a flexible schedule to insure attendance at all practices and competitions, including Saturdays.
- Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
- Maintains strong interpersonal skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, and contributing to building a positive team spirit and environment.
- Works directly with the certified athletic trainer in reporting injuries, teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries.
- Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing teams, coaches, parents, officials, spectators and community.
- Attend coaching clinics and other professional development opportunities to enhance coaching performance.
