SUMMARY: Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems by performing the following duties.
Preference will be given to those with electrical experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment. Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machines, equipment, structures, and systems. Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery. Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment. Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment. Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment. Operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, diagnostic tools, and hand tools. Able to use cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts. Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures. Able to complete program leading to certification for asbestos abatement.

14. Attends all scheduled employee in-service programs provided by the District.
15. Repairs and maintains in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, and production machines and equipment, using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing equipment, e.g., rules, calipers, micrometers, and electronic calibration equipment.
16. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
17. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
18. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, installs functional and structural parts in devices, repairs and adjusts electrical controls, and cleans and lubricates parts. Starts devices to test their performance.
19. Bends and cuts conduit and wire, drill holes in walls, floors, and ceilings for electrical connections. Properly installs said electrical connections.
20. Bends, cuts, threads and properly installs pipe and cuts openings in walls, floors, and ceilings for the repair and installation of plumbing fixtures. Clears clogged drains and replaces plumbing fixtures.
21. Able to weld and fabricate metal repairs.
22. Able to construct and install needed workbenches and areas, shelving, enclosures, doors, wall repairs, (including plaster or plaster board) and building trim.
23. Inspects and repairs boiler fittings, such as safety valves, regulators, control mechanisms, water columns, pumps, draft fans and burners.
24. Assists in the replacement of boiler tubes and plates.
25. May initiate purchase orders for parts and supplies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possess proper certification for asbestos abatement.
