School Counselor Qualifications:
1. New Jersey School Counselor Certification
2. Such other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence as the board may specify.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or resident alien status.
Reports to: Head of School/Principal
Job Goals: To provide counseling services for students and consult with parents, school personnel, and
outside agencies relative to student progress and evaluation.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Consults with school personnel on problems and concerns when requested and recommends corrective remedial
assistance; provides school-related counseling to students who are identified as at-risk or as mandated by I.E.P.
2. Provides effective guidance services including individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance,
professional communication and task management.
3. Provides for the needs of exceptional students though the use of available staff services and refers for special
attention those students experiencing unusual difficulties.
4. Assists the Child Study Team, Head of School/Principal in developing an effective educational program for all
children needing attention and guidance.
5. Holds evening conferences and meetings with parents, when necessary, as directed by the Building Principal.
6. Prepares and submits a weekly schedule to the Principal.
7. Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services and resources
offered.
8. Conducts threat and self-harm assessments as necessary.
9. Assists in the development and organization of the school’s character development program.
10. Coordinates the process of the school’s Intervention and Referral Service Team.
11. Assists in the development and administration of district testing programs.
12. Communicates effectively with students, parents/guardians, and school personnel.
13. Maintains high standards of ethical and professional conduct when dealing with students, colleagues,
administrators, and parents.
16. Serves as a liaison to outside agencies.
17. Follows all approved policies/regulations of the Board of Trustees.
18. Performs other duties within the scope of the school counselor employment and certification as assigned.
Employment Conditions:
Contract year: July 1st to June 30th of the school year.
Evaluation: In accordance with the Board of Trustees adopted method of evaluation.
