FUNCTIONS
The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the transportation program to ensure the safe and efficient transport of students, staff, and materials. This role involves managing personnel, implementing policies, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering community relations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate Degree in Business or the equivalency of five years experience in transportation management.
Proven experience in transportation program management and personnel supervision.
Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations and policies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in computer applications and data management.
Valid driver's license required.
Transportation industry certifications and/or CDL preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Transportation Program Management:
Maintain, develop and administer a comprehensive transportation program that aligns with the daily instructional program and cocurricular activities.
Plan, create, and regularly update bus routes for the district, considering student populations, traffic patterns, and special needs.
Collect and analyze data to generate transportation reports that support district planning and decision-making.
Collaborate with school principals, activity directors, and other responsible parties to plan and coordinate school-sponsored trips.
Assume an active role in resolving discipline issues on school buses, working closely with building administrators to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
Review and report road conditions and transportation challenges to the superintendent or designee, especially during inclement weather.
Policy Development and Compliance:
Assist in the development, administration, and interpretation of Board of Education policies related to pupil transportation, ensuring alignment with state and federal? laws and regulations.
Personnel Management:
Recruit, train, and supervise all transportation personnel, providing recommendations on hiring, transfer, promotion, and release.
Supervise department staff and create employee work schedules based on project priorities.
Collaborate with other district employees to meet additional transportation needs as they arise.
Work in collaboration with all transportation, maintenance, buildings and grounds, and building staff to ensure that departments are mutually supportive.
Budget Oversight:
Work with the Business Manager to prepare the budget for the pupil transportation function, ensuring that expenditures align with budgetary limitations and district policies.
Community Relations:
Communicate planned transportation schedules and any schedule revisions to the public, fostering positive community relations.
Maintain an open and cooperative relationship with the community and address community concerns regarding transportation services.
Equipment and Safety:
Maintain all district-owned equipment, including buses and vehicles, and develop ongoing fleet service plans.
Establish an efficient system for addressing emergency repair problems and ensuring minimal disruptions to transportation services.
Maintain safety standards that align with state and insurance regulations, developing and implementing a proactive safety program.
Professional Development:
Pursue ongoing professional growth and encourage the development of other transportation personnel through training and education opportunities.
Data Management:
Manage and maintain the district's transportation-related data, including student counts, mileage records, DDN Campus activities, and other relevant information.
Additional Duties:
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent that are essential for the efficient and effective operation of the transportation department.
