Are you an experienced facilities management professional with a strong background in maintenance, construction, and project oversight? Ball-Chatham CUSD #5 is seeking a Director of Facilities and Grounds to lead our facilities operations and ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and new construction for all district facilities
- Manage facility utilization, site repairs, security operations, and preventative maintenance
- Supervise and coordinate daily workflow, schedules, and assignments for grounds, maintenance, and custodial teams
- Prepare project estimates, requests for proposals (RFPs), and manage department budgets
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations on building codes and safety standards
- Conduct inspections of new construction, repairs, and special projects to ensure quality and efficiency
- Recruit, train, and evaluate facilities staff while providing ongoing professional development
- Respond to inquiries from staff, district personnel, and community members regarding facility operations
- Provide guidance on custodial duties to ensure a safe and clean school environment
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Facility Management, or Engineering and 5+ years of experience OR 10+ years of related experience with equal responsibilities
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) license or registered professional engineer
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
- Strong knowledge of building maintenance, safety regulations, and facility operations
Preferred:
- Experience in school district facilities management
- 5+ years of experience in building automation systems
- 10+ years of experience in building or grounds maintenance
Competencies:
- Ability to read blueprints, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment
- Knowledge of budget management and fiscal responsibility
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite for reports and record-keeping
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities effectively
Work Conditions:
- Mental Demands: Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, handle multiple priorities, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Physical Demands: Regular lifting up to 20 lbs, occasional lifting up to 75 lbs, frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching. Prolonged standing, walking, and sitting.
- Environmental Conditions: Work indoors in offices and school buildings, and outdoors in various weather conditions with moderate noise exposure.
