PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
 
To successfully provide children with a nurturing, safe and healthy environment while educating staff and parents through the developmental milestones.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Knowledgeable in the Developmental Milestones from 3.5 years through 6 years
• Knowledgeable in the Michigan Department of Education Early Childhood Standards
• Staff inform the office when supplies are needed for: art, sensory, gloves, wipes and cleaning supplies.
• Oversee the day to day operations of the classroom.
• Communicate with all parents on the development of their child.
• Makes sure the room is equipped with age-appropriate equipment and organized for a quality child development program.
• Develops weekly lesson plans, which are age-appropriate, including: sensory, stories and music, art, science, math, small and large motor stimulating learning in developmental areas, physical, social, emotional and intellectual.
• Posts any allergies
• Oversee all caregivers and is responsible for making sure the best interests of all the children are being met.
• Follows the Bay City Public Schools Early Childhood Centers Employee Handbook.
• Follows all Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers through the State of Michigan Department of Human Services.
• Knowledgeable in the Bay City Public Schools Early Childhood Centers Program Guide and Health Policies and Procedures and is able to share the information with parents and staff.
• Have current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
• Follow the proper OSHA procedures for blood-borne pathogens including diaper procedures.
• Participate in mandatory continuing education staff meetings so to improve and expand on their knowledge.
• Staff have knowledge of all emergency procedures and practice them routinely.
• Arrive to work on time, organized, prepared and ready to meet the children’s needs.
• Staff limit their conversations to child friendly, respectful conversations
• Staff maintains professional attitudes in their demeanor and in their personal relationships while on the job.
• Staff contributes to joint responsibilities.
• Staff is patient with children, interacting in a positive manner at the children’s level while engaging in play.
• Staff greets parents, children, visitors and other staff in a friendly and pleasant manner. Note any pertinent information or instructions.
• Staff keeps an open communication with the parents that builds mutual understanding and greater consistency for children.
• Staff maintains constant communication with the Facilitator/Early Childhood Director/Assistant Early Childhood Facilitator to keep her informed of daily occurrences.
• Staff shares ideas and accepts suggestion to help contribute to the total program.
• Staff consistently respond to children’s needs and comfort, thus enabling the children to develop trust.
• Children are praised for their accomplishments and helped to feel increasingly competent.
• Staff respect children’s curiosity about each other. At the same time, adults help to ensure that children treat each other gently.
• Staff model language through communication, singing and reading books.
• Staff encourage brain development through touch, sound, movement, sensory exploration, and visual experiences.
• Staff view each child as a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth and development. Each individual need will be incorporated into the daily routine.
• Have an overall awareness of what all children in the classroom are doing at any given time
• Educate your staff on weekly lesson plans, which are age-appropriate, including: sensory, stories and music, art, science, math, writing, small and large motor.
• Assist with keeping the room clean and orderly.
• After meals, all chairs are washed with the three step cleaning process. Floors are to be swept after each meal.
• Staff enjoy working with children.
 
DEMENSIONS OF POSITION
 
To supervise children and personnel assigned to the Preschool room under the guidance of the Center Administrator.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
Meet the minimum requirements as stated by the State of Michigan Department of Human Services Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing; licensing rules for Lead Caregiver.
• Must be 19 years of age
• Have a high school diploma or GED
• Meet the education requirements for Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers
• Be of responsible character and suitable to meet the needs of children.
• Have a current physical and TB
• Have a love for children
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS
Current First Aid, Adult and Pediatric CPR, and AED certification
 
COMPUTER SKILLS
Communication via e-mail.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, technical procures, program guides, health policies and licensing requirements
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

SUMMARY:  This position serves as the associate teacher in a classroom of GSRP children by providing instructional support in assisting with planning, developing and implementing lesson plans, goals and objectives.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.
• Assist in the ongoing program evaluation using the Program Quality Assessment (PQA).
• Aid in creating meaningful program quality improvement goals and objectives using the PQA and other program data.
• Support in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the classroom program and child screening(s) & assessment(s).
• Provide instruction and overall care for a specific group of children.
• Collaborate with the teaching staff to create meaningful child development goals.
• Help in the daily operation of the program including certain clerical and record keeping duties.
• Assist in the development and implementation of interesting, stimulating, and challenging indoor and outdoor daily activities.
• Establish positive relationships with parents, staff and the community.
• Attend (with lead teacher) (2) home visits and (2) parent/teacher conferences annually for every child and family.
• Participate in professional development.
• Follow and implement the policies and procedures of the Great Start Readiness Program grant.
• Follow and implement the policies and procedures of the Department of Human Services Licensing Guidelines.
• Work with additional building staff (i.e. principal, secretary, custodian, food services) to ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
• Assure that children’s records remain confidential.
• Ensure and carry out daily/weekly housekeeping chores for the classroom licensing requirements.
• Interact with the children and families in a way which conveys respect and nurturing.
• Support the social and emotional development of children.
• It will be the associate teacher’s responsibility to play with children; this will often mean getting down on the floor to interact with them.
• Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

Have an initial physical health examination.
Complete the required annual amount of hours of training provided in and outside of the program.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 
Minimum:  Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Preschool Education, or Child Development OR a Valid Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).
 
• Experience working with preschool children.
• Experience working with persons from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
 
• Displays strong problem solving skills as well as time management skills.
 
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  An Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Preschool Education, or Child Development. Valid Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedure, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, parents and the general public.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
