JOB TITLE: Bus Driver
FTE: .625 FTE; 5 hours per day
Salary: $18.24 - $22.55 per hour
F.L.S.A. Non Exempt
Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY
To provide safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school and for special events. To enforce rules, regulations, and laws to maintain safety during transport, also during loading and unloading students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Drives school buses or any district Pupil Transporting Vehicle on regularly scheduled routes, field trips, and other types of district approved trips. Could include vehicles equipped for wheel chairs and other special needs.
2. Obeys all traffic laws and observes State of Oregon standards and regulations regarding the transportation of students, as well as Defensive Driving Techniques.
3. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of the location, operation, purpose and use of all controls, instruments, gauges, and emergency equipment on the vehicle s/he will operate.
4. Keeps assigned bus clean inside; checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects; notifies the transportation supervisor in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
5. Picks up and discharges students only at authorized stops; transports only those students on the route list or those who have obtained a bus pass.
6. Manages students efficiently in a firm, but friendly manner; maintains safety and order when students are on the bus; reports undisciplined students to the appropriate administrator.
7. Reports all accidents and completes required reports and paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
8. Reports all incidents which need to be brought to the attention of the Transportation Coordinator on a Miscellaneous Incident Report.
9. Participates in District/State inservice/training and training courses as required.
10. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

1. High School Diploma or its equivalent.
2. Must possess a valid Oregon Commercial Driver's License.
3. Must possess or be able to obtain an Oregon Department of Education School Bus Driver's Certificate.
4. Ability to deal calmly with students, and to maintain concentration and patience in noisy and distracting conditions.
5. Ability to pass physical required for certification.
6. Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
7. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Moderate degree of physical stamina, occasional lifting up to 60 pounds.
2. Ability to operate and service school bus equipment and accessories such as doors, windows, radios, fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, tire chains, first aid and body fluid kits, and seat belt cutter.
3. Sufficient strength and agility to move about in bus to assist students with evacuation in case of an emergency.
4. Ability to sit for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, work independently, exercise sound judgment in driving in varying weather conditions, on all types of roads and in changing traffic situations.
5. Ability to perform significant physical abilities such as climbing/balancing, reaching/handling, talking/hearing, bending/twisting, and lifting/dragging.
6. Requires exposure to noise and inclement weather conditions.
7. Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student injury or illness.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
