Job Summary
Safety Security assists with school grounds and building safety and monitoring of student behavior and attendance. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
 
Job Requirements
The following are required:
    
1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
    
2. Ability to inspire harmonious relations and confidence and obtain cooperation of young people, parents, staff, and the general public.
    
3. Ability to encounter unusual circumstances and proceed with authority and without supervision.
    
4. Ability to communicate effectively with teenagers and adults.
    
5. Ability to compile reports as required under Anchorage School District policy.
    
6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with staff and school resource officers.           
 
The following are preferred: 
    
1. Coursework in psychology and sociology.
    
2. Responsible experience involving young people, security work, and community agencies.
 
Essential Job Functions 
    
1. Assists with problems related to tardiness, truancy, vandalism, student behavior, and parking regulations.
    
2. Surveys buildings for hazards and reports findings to principal.
    
3. Assists in supervising non-student, non-staff personnel on campus with regard to trespassing.
    
4. Under the direction of school administration, assumes primary responsibility for the direct supervision of students assigned to in school detention/suspension.
    
5. Assists in supervising student activities in school halls, on school grounds, and unit parking areas.
    
6. Assists in preventing the development of potentially dangerous or violent situations.
    
7. Assists in stabilizing and deescalating volatile situations that may arise.
    
8. Assists in investigation of minor criminal offenses occurring on school property and provides related assistance as required.
    
9. Maintains accurate records related to student discipline and referrals.
    
10. Maintains student confidentiality in all respects in accordance with ASD policy and state and federal law.
    
11. Prepares appropriate documents with reference to unit and ASD policy.
 
Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Job Summary
Classroom language immersion teachers create a flexible and supportive education program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. The teacher provides instruction at an appropriate grade level while establishing an effective rapport with students as well as parents and staff members. In accordance with each student’s ability, teachers motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good educational foundation. The teacher reports to and is evaluated by the site principal.
 
This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of work days is based upon the AEA negotiated pay scale. Information on the pay scale can be found online on our Labor Relations Department website. This position’s grade level, content area taught, and work site may change dependent upon student enrollment and district staffing needs. Positions that are 0.50 FTE to 1.0 FTE are associated with the Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS), positions that are 0.40 to 0.49 FTE are associated with the Alaska Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Positions that are 0.39 FTE or less are not eligible for state retirement benefits.

Job Requirements
The following are required:
1. A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.
2. Evidence of content knowledge shown by:
   1. a posted degree in the content area of this position; or
   2. a posted minor in the content area of this position; or
   3. passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores (formerly Praxis II) in the content area of this position; or
   4. an endorsement in the content area of this position
3. Native oral and written foreign language speaking ability in the language of this position.
