Position Title:
Education Specialist - Special Education

Position Description:
The Education Specialist implements plans of work, assuring that all tasks are accomplished within time frames outlined in district contracts. Working directly with students, families, and district staff, the Education Specialist promotes, implements, monitors and reports all activities related to assigned projects. The position is either part- or full-time.

Reports to:
Special Education Program Specialist

Minimum Qualifications:
• Degree in education, Master’s preferred
• Alaska teaching certificate in special education
• Experience with project planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting
• Experience as a special education teacher
• Experience developing and implementing curriculum
• Experience conducting training and workshops
• Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse groups
• Familiarity with Federal and State laws, regulations, and policies related to special education
• Familiarity with school and special education databases (SEIS, PowerSchool, etc)
• General computer skills, including Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and assessment software

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with the administration of special education programs according to district contracts
• Collaborate with district staff and service providers to develop and implement IEPs
• Design and support staff implementation of behavioral supports
• Support IEP teams in determining appropriate student programming and placement
• Develop ITPs and coordinate secondary transition services
• Facilitate IEP meetings
• Conduct student assessments and evaluations, including ESERs
• Communicate with and coordinate related service providers
• Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations and timelines
• Participate in the development and distribution of program materials
• Develop and conduct training, including teachers, paraeducators, parents, and administrators
• Participate in the development and implementation of program policies and procedures
• Support and supervise on-site professional and paraprofessional staff
• Participate in the development and delivery of curriculum
• Organize, collect, prepare, and analyze data and submit reports as required
• Maintain identifiable student information in a safe, confidential, and secure manner

SERRC offers an excellent benefits package, including State of Alaska retirement plan (TRS/PERS), health benefits, and sick and annual/personal leave, depending on the length of the employment contract. Employees who work 173 days or more during the contract year are eligible for full-time benefits. Employees who work between 115 and 172 days are eligible for pro-rated health benefits. Hourly employees who are scheduled to work 15 hours per week or less are not eligible for benefits.  All employees are eligible to participate in an employee-sponsored 403(b) plan and AFLAC.
