2. State of  Alaska Type A teacher certification; 
3. Must meet State of Alaska Highly Qualified requirement where applicable.

Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using technology and other materials to supplement presentations.
2. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
3. Interprets and utilizes available diagnostic data to identify and meet individual and group needs and concerns.
4. Uses planning to meet individual and group needs.
5. Shows knowledge of subject matter.
6. Demonstrates skill in establishing and maintaining classroom management that is conducive to learning.
7. Uses a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to the student's needs.
8. Establishes procedures for assessing student performance and utilizes the results.
9. Communicates and works effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
10. Maintains student records in accordance with district requirements.  Use of PowerSchool required.
11. Follows district policies and building goals.
12. Performs certain non-instructional duties.
13. Other duties as assigned.

OB TITLE:  SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

JOB PURPOSE:  Be part of a building team that plans a program of instruction for students with significant disabilities using a variety of methodology including direct instruction, classroom and community based functional skills training.   
 
Requirements:          
1.  Certification in Special Education issued by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.  
2. Preference given for experience working with high school students with behavior issues.
 
Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1.  Provide instruction and programs that meets students’ individual needs, abilities and interest
2. Assume duties such as testing, IEP writing, maintaining case files and records. Ability to develop and implement behavior intervention plans, classroom management systems, and reinforcement systems.
3.  Must be able to conduct parent and teacher conferences and run effective, well organized meetings.
4. Create individual student, paraprofessional and related services schedules. Develop and conduct instructional assistant support training activities regarding techniques for remediation of behavioral, social or personal problems of students. Provide training for instructional assistants with the program in the areas of behavior management skills and affective education.
5.  Must be able to deal with a wide variety of student behavior with pro-active positive behavior plans. Experience in the development and implementation of affective/social skills lessons.
6.  Must be able to effectively provide program direction to paraprofessionals.
7.  Keep informed of current developments in the field of Special Education.
8.  Maintain program records to meet district, state and federal requirements.
9.  Actively participate in school wide RTI and PBA programs.
10.  Provides assistance with discipline, and /or removal of students from classroom when behavior becomes disruptive, uncontrollable or harmful to the child or others.  
11.  Experience in the development and implementation of progress monitory systems. 
12.  Ability to develop and provide training support related to effective EBD (Emotionally-behaviorally disabled) practices in all school settings. 
13.  Participate as a team member in the identification of social/behavioral problems.
14.  Design, implement, and monitor progress of behavior management programs for students to remediate behavioral and social problems.
15.  Provide individual and small group social skills sessions on a regular basis to include socialization activities (e.g., social skills training, anger management)
16.  Develop and maintain psychosocial and behavioral data on the students.
17.  Plan and confer with the classroom teacher of students, as requested, concerning behavioral, social, or personal problems affecting the students.
18.  Assist the teacher of students with development of crisis prevention plan.

1.  Assist parents in locating and obtaining community resources which are available to the students and their families
2.  Assist in developing and maintaining home-school relations in crisis situations with the students.
3.  Assist in the development and implementation of reporting systems to parents
4.  Complete reports for appropriate local and state educational agencies.
5.  Assist with case-management and team problem-solving with other behavioral specialists, other district staff, agency personnel, and other appropriate professionals on a regular basis
