Salary Range: Starting at $17.03 based on the salary scale and placement by the Human Resources Director
SUMMARY
Manages school office, schedules office appointments, takes dictation, and otherwise relieves Principal of clerical work and minor administrative and business details by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Answers telephone and gives information to callers or routes call to appropriate official and places outgoing calls. Greets visitors, ascertains nature of business, and conducts visitors to appropriate person.
Organizes and maintains faculty and staff schedules, including absences, as directed by the principal or director.
Schedules appointments for principal. Arranges travel schedule and reservations.
Reads and answers or routes incoming mail. Composes and sends routine correspondence. Makes copies of correspondence or other printed matter and files appropriately.
Takes dictation in shorthand or by machine and transcribes on typewriter or computer.
Maintains an inventory of office machines, textbooks, supplies, and other needed equipment.
Accounts for and maintains written and computer records of building budgets, student activity account, petty cash, and other funds received by the school or department.
Compiles and types statistical reports.
Records minutes of staff meetings.
Greets and assists Substitute Teachers regarding their assignments. Arranges coverage when no substitute is available.
Types monthly school newsletter; keeps school calendar.
Prepares budget and records expenditures; types purchase requisitions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 3 to 5 employees in the school office. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
RECORDKEEPING and REPORTING
Principal's Report, End of Year Report, Absence Record and Substitute Coverage, Time Slips for Payroll Department, Budget, Employee Injury Reports and Key checkout and retrieval.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a school setting beneficial.
Clerical Testing may be required for this position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors and other employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
