Summer Enhancement Teacher
Position Summary:
Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Essential Duties: - Attends faculty meetings led by summer school Administrators.
- Teaches any combination of reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma City’s Board of Education and any other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with the identified objectives.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Treat pupils with respect and dignity.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
- Interacts with pupils, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Establish rapport with pupils and provides a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
- Actively participates in full implementation of the OKCPS model for School Improvement.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and selfselected professional growth activities.
- Supervise and monitor students during out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day which may include but not limited to (cafeteria duty, field trips, playground duty, hallway monitor, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
2025 Summer Learning Vision
The goal of the OKCPS Summer School program is to support students in their continuous improvement through an ambitious program that is established with student achievement at the forefront. Our 2024 Elementary Summer School program will focus on students in need of targeted and intensive instruction in the areas of ELA and Mathematics while also having increased opportunities to explore a wide variety of interest areas. The elementary program focuses on hiring the most qualified professionals in our district to serve our students in a face to face setting. Within this full day program, there will be a variety of opportunities for students to grow academically and socially. In alignment with the National Summer Learning Associations (NSLA) mission, the OKCPS Enhancement program will “help close the achievement and opportunity gap while supporting healthy development.”

2025 Summer Learning Information
Campus Culture
A welcoming, positive campus culture is the key to the overall success of OKCPS Summer Learning. Along with the content focused instruction, students will also participate in a daily activity in which they are exposed to a variety of educational opportunities for our elementary students. The purpose of this daily experience is to build relationships with the students while focusing on ways to recognize their achievements both in the classroom and outside. These educational opportunities will expose students to from throughout the community. While these daily opportunities strive to embed our core value of relationships and collaboration along with our Social & Emotional component of the OKCPS Graduate of a profile, our activities will focus on providing opportunities from our 10 Dimensions of Equity within the OKCPS Strategic Plan.
Campus Climate
Our primary goal is to support literacy development and numeracy development to promote academic success, with the goal to close academic gaps for those attending the June summer session. Lessons are designed to engage students with real world curriculum from Scholastic. Learning is infused throughout the morning and afternoon activities.
Elementary Eligibility
We will use the following criteria to determine what students will benefit from this program:
Parent Referral: In the event that a parent makes an inquiry for their student to attend summer school, for any reason, they are to be enrolled. No other criteria needs to be included with a Parent Referral.
Administrator Requirement: All students who are working below the 40th percentile according to the Spring Assessment Data in NWEA will receive a letter indicating that they need to attend June’s Summer Enhancement programming.
Teacher/Administrator Referral: A process for determining students at the site level who would benefit from additional academic supports is to be led by the home school administrative team to work with the classroom teacher for students who may benefit from the summer learning experience.
Elementary Curriculum (Core Content)
Summer School will consist of “Lit. Camp” for ELA and “Do The Math” for mathematics.
Summer School principals will work closely with the OKCPS Curriculum department to train, implement, and utilize “Lit. Camp” and “Do The Math.” The four week summer program uses real world experiences through on grade level texts while having embedded social, emotional learning throughout. Additionally, students will be exposed to Character Strong to support their social growth and problem solving skills. Students will also have the opportunity to work with athletes from our local high schools introducing them to the sports offered in OKCPS.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required): - Bachelor’s in education or a related field
- Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Elementary Education in appropriate subject or subjects or Alternative Teaching Certification as approved by Oklahoma State Department of Education.
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines.
Physical/Mental Requirements: - Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
Work Environment: - Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
