Position Summary:
Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
 
Essential Duties:
• Provides learning experiences in pre-reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the Board of Education and any other appropriate learning activities.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturities.
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
• Utilizes grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the naturally informal atmosphere of a kindergarten. Treat pupils with respect and dignity.
• Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences to discuss individual pupil’s progress and interprets the school program. Interacts with pupils, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Establish rapport with pupils and provides a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
• Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin board, and interest centers.
• Supervises and monitors students during out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day which may include but not limited to (cafeteria duty, field trips, playground duty, hallway monitor, etc.)

• To ensure continuity of services, alternative work site may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. Position Summary:
 
Work collaboratively with district- and site-level staff to support and facilitate gifted and talented programming to ensure students’ instructional needs are met and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Extending beyond gifted and talented students, engage all students in the school with enriched learning experiences through the use of the STEAM rooms. Coordinating and facilitating Botball activities and challenge days for interested students is also required.
 
Essential Duties:
 
Gifted and Talented
 
• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the gifted and talented program
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of gifted students based on the district's goals and objectives
• Organize and facilitate the Gifted and Talented School Site Committee
• Coordinate the ongoing identification of the gifted and talented students at the school site and communicate with parent(s)/guardian(s) about their child’s individual programming options 
• Organize documentation and collection of data related to services provided to the school’s gifted populations
• Work with the Planning, Research, and Evaluation (PRE) Department to ensure identified gifted and talented students have been marked in the school information system (SIS) with correct category classification
• Assist instructional staff in developing and providing gifted and talented students with appropriate learning activities and experiences 
• Advocate and dispel misconceptions related to giftedness and cultural implications on giftedness
• Participate in all district-level gifted and talented education meetings throughout the school year and disseminate essential content specific information and expectations from gifted and talented education meetings or emails in staff meetings and professional learning communities (PLCs)

Paraprofessional – ELL/Bilingual  

Position Summary: 
Provides support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students; and providing clerical support to teacher/s and staff.
 
Essential Duties:  
• Uses their fluency in English and a language other than English in order to assist English Language Learner (ELL) students to learn academic content, language, and to adjust to U.S.schools.
• Assists ELL students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, providing writing assistance, reinforce language skills, numbers, alphabet, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
• Communicates and collaborates with teachers for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing classroom objectives
• Facilitates cooperative work and cross-cultural understanding between ELL students and native English speakers in the classroom
• Provide feedback to the teacher regarding ELL students' progress and challenges in learning academic content and language and in adjusting to U.S. schools
• Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs general clerical tasks (e.g. laminating, making posters, making copies, bulletin boards, filing, newsletters, etc.) for the purpose of helping the teacher get instructional materials ready.
• Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, appropriate and/or inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• To ensure continuity of services, alternative work site may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for alternative work site will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for alternative work site will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
   
 
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
• High School Diploma or GED required and one of the following:
  • Tier 1 Completed at least 48 credit hours of college study
  • Passed the OGET test
  • Pass the Education Testing Service Parapro Assessment Test (passing score is 455)
  • Workkeys Assessment (Passing score is 3 or better on all three parts).
• Must obtain OSDE Paraprofessional Credential ($10 fee).
• Successfully completed the Bilingual Skills Test administered through OKCPS
• Demonstrated ability to fluently speak, write, read, and comprehend multiple languages.
• Operates standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications.
• Performs basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
• Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; and age appropriate activities.
• Ability to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
• Ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment.
• Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans.
• Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
  • flexibility; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):
• Experience working with students whose primary language is not English.


Physical/Mental Requirements:
• Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer  
• Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties 
• Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone 
• Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds  
• Sitting for prolonged periods of time
• May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines
 
 Work Environment:
• Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment.

Elementary Teacher - Special Education
 
Position Summary:
Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

 
Essential Duties:
• Teaches any combination of reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma City’s Board of Education and any other appropriate learning activities.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with the identified objectives. Presents the content required in Oklahoma's Priority Academic Student Skills.
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
• Utilizes grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Treat pupils with respect and dignity.
• Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
• Interacts with pupils, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Establishes rapport with pupils and provides a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
• Actively participates in full implementation of the OKCPS model for School Improvement.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and selfselected professional growth activities.
• Supervise and monitor students during out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day which may include but not limited to (cafeteria duty, field trips, playground duty, hallway monitor, etc.)  
• Performs other duties as assigned.

  • DEAF-BLINDNESS REQUIREMENTS: Hearing Impaired; Deaf/Hard of Hearing; Visually Handicapped; Blind/Visual Impairment; and 9802 Deaf-Blindness.
  • ID REQUIREMENTS: Mentally Handicapped; Mild-Moderate Disabilities; Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities.
  • ED REQUIREMENTS: Emotionally Disturbed; Mild-Moderate Disabilities; Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities.
  • LD REQUIREMENTS: Learning Disabilities; Mild-Moderate Disabilities; Severe-Profound/Multiple Disabilities.
  • MD REQUIREMENTS: Certification in at least two areas of special education and completion of 32 clock hours of Special Education Services-approved multiple disability registry. Multiple Disabilities or SevereProfound/Multiple Disabilities.
