    Start date:                   As soon as possible
     
    Position Outcomes:
    To provide direct nursing services to students with health needs. To perform duties in accordance with professional standards, district/state board of education policies and state law regarding nurse practice.
     
    General Responsibilities:
    This employee works within the established Standards Of Nurse Practice Act, exercises strict confidentiality, uses initiative and independent judgment in performing duties and keeps informed of procedures, policies, and mandates that affect the delivery of nursing services in schools. This employee must possess the skills and knowledge to react to a medical emergency.
     
    Qualifications:
    1. RN or LPN with current Illinois licensure
    2. Current CPR/AED certification
    3. Physical ability to perform the duties required of a nurse practicing in a school setting, such as ability to physically move about the school building, going up and down several flights of stairs, ability to lift and position students (30-80 pounds) if assigned to a classroom or student with such requirements, responding to medical emergencies, and treating patients on the ground
    4. Ability to read, write and communicate in English to understand directions and communicate with students and staff
    5. Ability to make minor decisions with minimal supervision in accordance with established procedures
    6. Ability to participate in New Trier High School approved behavior management procedures, Non- Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and to apply training in crisis situations including student restraints as needed
     
    Position Expectations:
    1. Provide direct professional nursing services to students which include but may not be limited to:  Gastric tube care and feedings, Urinary tract catheterization, seizure management with emergency medication, medication administration, hygiene management/changing, assisting and implementing health care plans, and implementing emergency health plans when needed.
    2. Will be assigned to a student within a general education classroom and special education classroom, working within a team of teacher, paraprofessionals, OT/PT, speech pathologist, and others.
    3. Assist in the direct supervision of students under the supervision, of and as directed by, the assigned classroom faculty member as necessary and directed. 
    4. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students and staff.
    5. Maintains medical equipment and supplies as appropriate.
    6. Maintains communication with the Health Services Coordinator, teachers, other school personnel and parents/guardians to meet the health and safety needs of assigned student.
    7. Responsible for documenting pertinent health information and facilitating accommodations as required to meet the medical needs of the student.
    8. Represents health and wellness, projecting a positive attitude to the school community.
    9. Supplement the work of the assigned classroom including, but not limited to, all required paperwork, organization of classroom, and supervision of students.
    10. Support New Trier High School Board policy, New Trier High School goals and objectives, and The School Code of Illinois.
    11. Continues job performance enhancement by participating in professional growth activities.
    12. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
