Elmhurst Community Unit School District seeks a highly qualified student services professional to work with our teams at York Community High School and Bridges Transition Center. Summary
Under general supervision from the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services and other members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, the Directors of Student Services oversee the implementation of all special education and student services programming for an assigned group of schools. The Directors support the building administrators with the development, organization, administration, supervision and evaluation of student support programs including the District’s special education, 504, and MTSS programming. The Directors take the lead in coordinating all student services functions of the District in compliance with federal and state regulations, and district/building policies and procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Coordinates all special education related functions for designated schools:
Supports building leaders to oversee the implementation of special education services; ensure guidelines, procedures, and instruction are in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and Board Policy and align with the District’s Strategic Plan.
In collaboration with Student Services and Learning and Teaching, provides an aligned professional learning plan in support of strategic plan goals and priorities.
Supports building personnel with curriculum adaptation, intervention selection and implementation to ensure students with disabilities have appropriate supports and services.
Meets regularly with building leaders to help guide, coach, and problem-solve regarding special education and student services issues.
Regularly collaborates with building leaders and personnel to coordinate, and monitor student placements and transitions to and from outplacements.
When necessary and appropriate, serves as LEA for IEP and 504 meetings including for students who are placed outside of the District, including those placed in public and private therapeutic, and residential settings.
Collaborates with the Schools Association for Special Education of Dupage (SASED) on contract services for D205 students.
Develops and monitors a comprehensive system of transition programming for students with disabilities.
In collaboration with the District’s Director of Research and Assessment, oversees the implementation of special education assessments, including Dynamic Learning Map (DLM-AA).
Oversees transportation for students who require special transportation.
Collaborates with private and parochial schools to complete evaluations for students in need of evaluations.
In collaboration with the District’s Learning and Teaching team, coordinates all student services functions for designated schools:
Leads work with District and building leaders to design, plan, and implement all aspects of social and emotional learning for the building or set of buildings including ensuring that all students have access to a guaranteed and viable curriculum and tiered interventions.
In collaboration with building and district leaders, supports the implementation of college and career readiness pathways in alignment with the American School Counselors Association and other similar frameworks.
Oversees, in collaboration with the Learning and Teaching team, develops an efficient tiered model of intervention and support at Tiers Two and Three in an MTSS Structure with a focus on English/Language Arts and Math.
Supports the use of data and evidence-based progress monitoring tools to ensure students who are at-risk for failure remain on track.
Supports the use of evidence-based approaches for strong student, classroom, and school-wide behavioral programming, including the use of inclusive or restorative practices in schools. Supports school staff and administrators with behavior intervention at the school, classroom, student levels.
Provides advice and support to building leaders on appropriate resolution to discipline related issues and student related reports as necessary.
Coordinates and supervises Extended School Year for the District including hiring and training of all staff in conjunction with Human Resources and other departments.
Ensures that students have smooth transitions between grade levels by designing, planning, and implementing a high quality program of support for students and their families with a focus on transitions from Early Childhood to Kindergarten, elementary to middle school, and middle school to high school.
Effectively communicates with all parents/guardians regarding the needs of students, and complies with established District communication protocols
Leads one or more major areas of the District’s student services program (i.e. Deans, Social Workers, School Counselors, School Psychologists, Speech/Language Pathologists, etc.) including the development of an aligned professional learning plan.
Ensures the district has an appropriate continuum of services and that students are being placed in their least restrictive environment.
Oversees the implementation of parent events and programming in collaboration with special education parent groups.
Oversees and provides training on digital IEP and records storage programs.
Writes, manages and oversees appropriate grants including the IDEA Part B and IDEA Early Childhood Grants, ISBE Pre-School Grants, McKinney-Vento Homeless Grant and related expenditure reports.
In collaboration with other administrators, ensures that Title Grants and related expenditure reports are completed in a timely manner.
Oversees district use and data entry into iStar, the state’s special education student and staff approval and claims program.
Completes all other duties as assigned.

Summary
Under general supervision from the building principal and district leaders, the Assistant Principal for Instruction supports the building principal with the development, organization, administration, supervision, and evaluation of a curricular program that enables all students to learn and grow. The Assistant Principal is an instructional leader who accepts responsibility for the achievement of ambitious school improvement goals and works collaboratively with other building and district leaders in support of the student journey of excellence.
In coordination with the District’s Learning & Teaching team, oversees all 9-12 academic programming and leads building-wide continuous improvement efforts in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Evaluates tier 1, 2, and 3 programming and strategically leads a multi year plan for continuous improvement to elevation instructional programming and practices to best meet the needs of all students.
In collaboration with building and district leaders, evaluates data to set informed and ambitious school improvement goals in alignment with the district priorities and reviews and monitors impact of schoolwide and division-based professional learning plans.
Oversees, strategically develops, and evaluates Instructional Coaches and Division Chairs, including observations & feedback, facilitation of Division Chair meetings, and execution of an aligned professional learning plan for Instructional Coaches and Division Chairs based on department needs and student outcomes.
In coordination with school and district leadership, leads opportunities for students to be celebrated for academic growth and excellence, including the facilitation of family communication and engagement at events including Rising Freshmen Academic Night, Family Open House, and family-teacher conferences.
In collaboration with district and school leaders, designs, plans, and implements an aligned professional learning plan and approves any external professional development requests to ensure alignment to school and district priorities.
In collaboration with the Division Chairs and York Student Services, oversees the creation of the Master Schedule and coordinates the course approval process with any necessary revisions to the Student Coursebook.
Maintains current knowledge of curriculum, instructional pedagogy, adult learning, and standards-aligned and research-based practices across all content areas.
In collaboration with the Principal and other building leaders, monitors and tracks trends in student performance across all academic areas, including specialized instruction and English Language Learning, to ensure school performance toward meeting rigorous goals.
In collaboration with Middle School Principals and others, designs, plans, and implements a comprehensive system for middle school articulation.
In collaboration with building & district leaders, coordinates all Human Resources functions for the building, including recruiting educators, ensuring a robust interview process to hire and retain high quality educators.
Assists in supporting, communicating, implementing, and evaluating school and district initiatives.
Supports team to ensure districtwide and state-required assessments are implemented at York including, but not limited to PSAT, Pre-ACT, and ACT.
Actively participates and leads when needed regular meetings with the building principal, senior leadership team, building leadership team, and district leadership team.
Serves as a resource and assures effective development and operation of committees and the active participation of program staff.

Education and/or Experience
Master's degree or equivalent

Equivalent combination of education and experience

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Learning & Teaching, the Director of Secondary Student Learning serves as a key member of the Learning and Teaching and Student Services district teams, providing input and leadership on school-wide instructional initiatives and strategic planning at the secondary level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In coordination and consultation with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching, develop and monitor secondary academic programs across all content areas, including curriculum, assessment, recruitment of staff, and performance data analysis.
In partnership with school leadership teams, identify adult learning plans to develop secondary educators, including observations/feedback, professional learning sessions, curriculum development, caseload analysis, and improvement recommendations for evidence-based interventions based on student outcomes.
In coordination with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching, School Leadership, and Student Services, coordinate the scheduling, programming, progress-monitoring, and staffing related to Tier II and Tier III instruction for students 6-12.
In coordination with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching and School Leadership, design a district-wide data driven professional development plan and facilitate sessions for instructional coaches, division chairs, assistant principals, and principals.
Design, coordinate, implement, monitor and improve Elmhurst District 205 academic programming pathways, defined as a recommended, aligned sequence of courses that provide students opportunities to explore and develop skills within areas of core content across grades 6-12.
In coordination with the Assistant Superintendents of Learning & Teaching and School Leadership, collaborate with principals, staff and other supervisors to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs to ensure programs achieve short and long-term goals and that services are administered uniformly, equitably and effectively at all secondary schools.
Coordinate curriculum planning and alignment with relevant Learning & Teaching Directors and Secondary Principals, Assistant Principals, Instructional Coaches, Department Chairs, and Division Chairs.
Partner with Assistant Principal of Instruction at York High School to lead school improvement efforts and engage in professional learning and coaching cycles for Division Chairs.
Collaborate with the Director of Research and Assessment to continuously use research and data to monitor progress towards goals and develop strategic plans to elevate student outcomes.
Foster and maintain relationships with external partners to sustain district wide teaching and learning efforts.
Assist Learning and Teaching Directors with coordinating Professional Development experiences for all staff and informational events for guardians.
Create and maintain community partnerships when appropriately connected to curriculum and instruction.
Keep current in knowledge of curriculum, instructional pedagogy, adult learning, research-based and standards-aligned programming and practices.
Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Administrative, General Administrative, Principal, Supervisory or Superintendent endorsement required
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed in a Secondary teaching area
Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills
Strong knowledge of curriculum/instruction/staff development
Master’s Degree required
Evidence of at least five (5) years of exemplary classroom teaching expertise and three (3) years of building or district administrative experience
Deep understanding of current curriculum practices, instructional pedagogy, formative and summative assessments, evidenced-based interventions, and implications for classrooms
Deep understanding of the Illinois Learning Standards, Common Core Shifts, SAT, PreACT, and ACT Assessments
Proven leadership skills to facilitate teachers and leaders in curriculum, instruction, and professional development
Proven ability to listen, share ideas, identify obstacles to student achievement, and strategically plan with other administrators
