Primary Purpose This is a Title I, Part A funded position to provide additional support to students in need of assistance to reach their potential. Provide support services to enhance academic, social, and emotional learning. Work under the direct supervision of teacher(s).
Qualifications Education/Certification Associate’s degree, two years of study (48 college hours) at an institute of higher learning, or meet formal academic assessment
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to assist with classroom instruction
Ability to work well with children
Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to speak and write Spanish, preferred (Required for ESL/Bilingual Instructional Aide)
Experience Experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies - Under teacher supervision, provide instruction and additional support to enhance academic, social, and emotional learning to students in individual and small group settings.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, administering and scoring assignments and assessments, preparing records and reports, and maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
- Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Assist in conducting parent involvement activities and encourage family engagement.
Student Management - Assist with classroom management.
- Supervise students throughout the day, inside and outside the classroom.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs and issues of individual students.
Professional Growth and Learning - Participate in professional learning activities to improve job-related skills and demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.
Communication - Establish and maintain appropriate communication and a professional relationship with students, families, and colleagues.
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district and demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible as set out in the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student and district information.
